A member of the UCM leadership team and reporting directly to the Vice President for Public Affairs and Chief Communications Officer, the Executive Director is the University’s lead content strategist, working to mine the campus and University constituencies for dynamic stories and content that advance brand messaging, publications, digital initiatives, social media marketing and management, video storytelling, special events and more. As a strategic dot-connector and relationship builder, the Executive Director works closely with UCM leadership to understand target audiences deeply and ensure that the University is reaching them through the right channel, at the right time, and with the right content. The Executive Director has three primary roles: 1) Developing and implementing a goal-advancing strategy for researching, gathering and producing channel-agnostic content; 2) Working collaboratively across the various channels to bring the University’s brand to life in a consistent, cohesive and compelling way; and 3) Leading day to day operations of a dynamic, high performing editorial and multi-media content team. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Exceptional strategic and creative sensibilities. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated experience directing content operations from concept to completion and establishing related processes and practices. Leadership and supervisory skills and ability to develop and manage key performance indicators and analytics. Extensive project management skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and creatively. Ability to function with a high degree of independence and to act collaboratively in the development and execution of marketing and communications strategies. Ability to reflect, articulate and promote the mission, vision and identity of Tulane University. Ability to be performance and optimization focused and to set and achieve goals. Expert knowledge of social media and digital platforms and experience tracking and evaluating related analytics. Experience overseeing the creation and development of print and digital publications. Ability to be a strong collaborator, thought leader and facilitator. Required Education and/or Experience Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, communications, English, business, marketing or related field 7-10 years of experience in marketing communications, including supervisory experience Preferred Qualifications Experience leading multi-channel, multi-media communications and marketing campaigns and strategies. Experience with creative design. Experience with web/social monitoring tools. Experience with project management tools. Understanding of AP style. Experience in higher education or public sector.
