This position is ideal for someone who is excited about and interested in the local arts scene, as well as community spaces and nonprofits. The communications director will work an average of 15 hours/week and collaborate with the exhibitions director, the operations director, and the board of directors to continue the success of Gallery 263. The ideal candidate will have experience in digital communications, project management, and graphic design. She/He/They will be an excellent collaborator, strong communicator, and an advocate for non-profit, community-minded arts. This is a highly hands-on position, with opportunities for staff members to add their voices and their passions to our mission and programming. Staff members have been able to infuse the gallery with their personal style and bring forth ideas for transforming the space’s current offering. Essential Duties 1. Marketing & Communications Manage social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook), including regular posting, audience engagement, paid advertising, and metric tracking Stay informed on social media trends and explore emerging platforms Create and send biweekly newsletters and one-off email campaigns for exhibitions, fundraising, and calls for art Track and analyze email marketing performance, adapting content as needed Write and distribute press releases for exhibitions and events; respond to press inquiries Promote events and calls for art on external platforms to drive attendance/submissions Maintain donor database 2. Content Creation & Brand Management Create and update all content for the gallery263.org website Oversee Pearl, the gallery’s online art journal, including artist/curator interviews and publishing Develop promotional content using Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc., for web, print, and social Coordinate with photographers to ensure brand-aligned documentation of exhibitions and events Ensure consistent visual identity and editorial tone across all platforms Maintain current grant branding on website and deliverables Create language for grant applications, fundraising, and events Collaborate with board on evolving the brand Writing and distributing press releases for exhibitions and events 4. Organizational & Operational Support Gallery sit one day per week (Gallery hours are Thursday/Friday, 4 to 7 pm, and Saturday/Sunday, 1 to 4 pm) Attend quarterly board meetings and support receptions, fundraisers, and events (some evenings/weekends required) Maintain communications budget Help with light cleaning and organizing of gallery space Qualifications Three to five years of communications experience Excellent written communication skills Detail oriented Experience in Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Mailchimp, Customer relationship management software, and WordPress A background or interest in the arts or nonprofits
