Job Description

The Community Organizer will work closely with other DSNI staff, Board,resident leaders, and partner organizations to further the strategicgoals of DSNI. The Organizer will work collaboratively with staff ofDudley Neighbors Incorporated (DNI), the community land trustestablished by DSNI and a subsidiary of DSNI. The position reports toDSNI?s Director of Community Organizing and the responsibilitiesinclude: ? Organize and support monthly meetings with the SustainableDevelopment Committee (SDC). Engage participants on local developmentand communicate with residents who may be impacted by these newdevelopments. Connect with local city councilors and MOH staff anddevelopers to understand the implication of projects in the DSNIcatchment area. Organize and support SDC retreats and engage SDC memberson DSNI activities. ? Support the Organizing Committee to addressdevelopment without displacement by creating presentations on issuesidentified by members and help to increase the participation ofresidents on campaigns that emerged from community members. Facilitatethe community planning process of the Trina Persad Playground and workwith DNI staff to identify funding sources to repair the playground. ?Work with Boston Park and Recreation Department on the redesign of theDudley Town Common, identify and preserve community artifacts that wereplaced in the Dudley Town Common when the park was created. Work closewith residents to identify best use and ? Support the DSNI?s work aroundClimate Resilience Hub by engaging community members on the discussionand planning for the Climate Resilience Hub. ? Participate in communityoutreach efforts to residents around initiatives, inclusive of, but notlimited to civic engagement, housing, and economic development as wellas other issues as identified by residents. ? Represent DSNI and thecommunity at-large on City and community-based initiatives andparticipate and engage in meetings and act as a conduit for residents ofthe Roxbury/North Dorchester communities ? Partner with other staff andcommunity partners, in the coordination of community oversight andresident engagement in Roxbury/North Dorchester communities. ? Maintainand use a database to communicate with residents through emails,newsletters, phone calls and regular mailing. Support communicationefforts to engage with local media to promote DSNI?s work and campaigns.? Support and participate in DSNI organizational events, including, butnot limited to annual meeting, multicultural festival, open house,fundraiser, board meetings, retreats, tours and presentations.

Qualifications ? Personal commitment to DSNI?s mission and values,including the power of resident voice and control and developmentwithout displacement ? At least 2 years of community organizingexperience. ? Proven ability to work effectively with people fromdiverse racial, cultural, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds ?Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet goals and strictdeadlines ? Strong public speaking and writing skills ? Stronginterpersonal and relational skills ? Strong meeting facilitation skills? Social media and media relations experience a plus ? Willingness towork flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends ? Collegedegree preferred ? Bilingual English/Cape Verdean Creole stronglypreferred Salary range for this position is $60,000-63,000 annually,depending on experience. DSNI offers a comprehensive benefits package.
