The Director of Community Engagement and Development will help shape the public narrative of COMPASS, leading external communications, storytelling, marketing, and digital presence efforts, and will cultivate strong community partnerships to elevate COMPASS’ visibility and impact. In addition to these responsibilities, the Director of Community Engagement and Development will lead fundraising efforts for the COMPASS Help Fund, a critical resource that provides direct support to families experiencing financial crisis. This person will work in close collaboration with the Executive Director and COMPASS Leadership Team to ensure alignment between outreach strategies and organizational goals. This person must also understand, respond to, and embrace the cultural and linguistic diversity among COMPASS staff and clients. All applications must include a cover letter.
Some Essential Job Functions:
Develop and implement an agency-wide communications strategy that supports COMPASS’ mission, amplifies COMPASS’ impact, and strengthens COMPASS’ brand Lead the creation of compelling written, visual, and digital content, including newsletters, website updates, social media, brochures, and annual reports. Manage and grow COMPASS’ digital presence across platforms, using analytics to guide strategy and engagement Ensure messaging reflects COMPASS’ mission, evidence-based practices, and commitment to equity and inclusion. Build and maintain relationships with State government, community stakeholders, partner organizations, and local leaders to raise awareness and foster collaboration. Represent COMPASS at legislative and community events, job fairs, conferences, and public speaking engagements. Facilitate storytelling opportunities by uplifting the voices of families, staff, and program participants (with appropriate consent and confidentiality safeguards). Lead the planning and execution of fundraising initiatives across the organization, collaborating with the Executive Director and leadership team to identify funding opportunities, set annual fundraising goals, engage donors, and ensure alignment between development efforts and COMPASS’ mission and strategic priorities. Maintain donor management database to record interactions and contributions Write and support grant proposals and reports, especially those tied to impact and community benefit.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Communications, or related field (required) 2. Master’s degree in Business Administration, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or related field (preferred) 3. 5-7 years experience in nonprofit development, communications, and impact analysis

Strong interpersonal skills to build trust-based relationships with community members, partners, and donors. 3. Capacity to listen actively and translate input into effective messaging and engagement strategies. 4. Brings a strong understanding of fundraising principles, including grant writing, donor cultivation, and event planning as tools for mission advancement 5. Demonstrates the ability to interpret and apply financial reports and budgets to support informed decision-making and strategic planning 6. Maintains a high level of organization, with strong project management skills and the ability to balance multiple priorities effectively 7. Excels in written, verbal, and interpersonal communication, with a clear and confident style adaptable to various audiences 8. Possesses a working knowledge of social media platforms and how to leverage them to expand reach, engagement, and brand visibility 9. Familiar with donor databases and email marketing platforms, with the ability to manage, track, and strengthen stakeholder relationships 10. Demonstrates proficiency in using Google Suite and Zoom applications 11. Demonstrates ability to maintain compliance with HIPPA regulations 12. Demonstrates an ability to foster an environment that values diversity, equity, and inclusion
