The Biddeford Police Department is looking for a strategic thinker with a calm presence to be the Emergency Communications Center Manager and lead our 24/7 emergency communications operations. This critical leadership role ensures the effective and efficient delivery of emergency dispatch services for law enforcement, fire, and EMS covering the City of Biddeford and six surrounding communities. At the Biddeford Emergency Communication Center, you’ll be part of a dedicated team committed to protecting and serving our communities. Responsibilities Manage daily operations of the Emergency Communications Center Supervise, train, and mentor communications staff Develop and implement policies, procedures, and performance standards Coordinate with public safety departments and external agencies Oversee emergency preparedness planning and crisis communication strategies Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations Manage budgets, schedules, and technology upgrades Required Qualifications Certified in Emergency Medical (EMD) and Fire Dispatching (EFD), Maine METRO and NCIC certifications, Communications, OR a related field (OR equivalent experience) Proficiency with dispatch systems and emergency communications technology Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills Ability to remain composed in high-pressure situations Knowledge of Maine 911 systems, CAD software, and applicable regulations A willingness to demonstrate a commitment to the City of Biddeford’s work around diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion Preferred Qualifications 5+ years of experience in public safety emergency communications, with supervisory experience Certifications such as APCO, NENA, or Emergency Number Professional (ENP) Experience in multi-jurisdictional emergency coordination Equal Opportunity Employer The City of Biddeford’s mission is to cultivate and sustain a diverse, inclusive, equitable, welcoming, and belonging-based workplace where employees actively practice solidarity for the greater good of the work environment and employee experience.
