This role involves developing and executing comprehensive public relation strategies that align with the organization’s objectives, enhancing its reputation, and fostering positive relationships with key stakeholders, including the media, customers, employees, and the general public. Examples of Duties Develops and executes a proactive media relations strategy to elevate JSU’s brand and visibility. Ensures all PR content published through university’s newsroom, email communications and press channels follow SEO and accessibility best practices to maximize reach and inclusivity. Manage crisis communication planning and response in coordination with the CCO. Manages internal communications, ensuring clear, timely messaging to faculty, staff and students. Cultivate and maintain relationships with journalists, media outlets, and industry influencers. Lead press conferences, media briefings and public relation events. Oversees the creation of press releases and media advisories. Services teams to amplify PR content across platforms. Provide media training for university leadership, faculty and key spokespersons. Managing strategic communication efforts for high profile university initiatives and events. Monitor, analyze and report on media coverage using tools such Muck Rack, Meltwater, and CIsion to provide insights and recommendations to CCO and broader communication teams. Collaborates with Marketing (including social media), Digital Storytelling and Creative. Typical Qualifications Minimum of 7 years of experience in public relations, media relations or strategic communications. Knowledge and experience of crisis communication, media relations, reputation management issues management. Strong storytelling and writing skills for various platforms and audiences. Ability to manage PR campaigns, media outreach and crisis response strategies. Knowledge of Public Relations best practices in higher education. Familiarity with media monitoring tools such as Muck Rack, Meltwater and Cision. Understanding of SEO and digital accessibility best practices as they relate to content strategy and inclusive communication. Strong writing, editing and public speaking skills. Experience leading PR in a university, nonprofit or corporate setting. Proven ability to develop strong relationships with journalist and media partners. Strong organizational and leadership experience managing teams.
