Description The Winston Salem Police Department is seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual to join our team as a Community Educator. The Community Educator will play a pivotal role in coordinating, planning, and publicizing special projects, programs, and campaigns aimed at enhancing community engagement and furthering the goals and mission of the Winston-Salem Police Department. This position requires effective communication, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. The Community Educator will report directly to the Community Resources Unit Sergeant and will work closely with other members of the Community Resources Unit. Examples of Duties Coordinate and plan special projects, programs, and campaigns to promote community engagement and enhance public safety.
Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to identify and address community needs and concerns.
Determine educational, service, and material needs for programs aimed at educating the community on various aspects of public safety and law enforcement.
Conduct educational programs and workshops on topics such as crime prevention, neighborhood safety, and community policing.
Collaborate with the news media and the WSPD Public Information Officer to publicize programs and events, and to disseminate important information to the community.
Assist in the development of educational materials, including brochures, flyers, and social media content.
Assist the Community Resources Unit Sergeant in other duties as assigned. Typical Qualifications Education and Experience
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in marketing and/or communications, public relations or administration, or other similarly related field. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Ability to educate or interact with prevalent demographic populations within the City of Winston Salem, elected officials, internal and external professional staff; ; excellent written and oral communication skills; active listening, project management, and problem-solving skills; knowledge of different research methods, including data collection and analysis, knowledge of desktop publishing and other computer skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.
Physical Requirements:
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 25 pounds of force for physical lifting, pulling, and pushing movements; work regularly requires sitting, speaking, or hearing, using hand to finger handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires standing and walking, and occasionally requires stooping, squatting, kneeling, crouching, reaching with hands and arms; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expression or exchanging ideas by means of spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken work levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating motor vehicles or equipment, and observing general surroundings and activities; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (business office, classroom, light traffic).
