As a key member of the Music Academy’s administrative team, the Director of Programs and Community Outreach plays a central role in the cultivation of community partners, implementation and execution of programs and activities, and evaluation of outcomes and impact. The Director collaborates with administrative staff, faculty, community partners, and students to create meaningful music learning experiences that reflect the organizational goals and values of the Music Academy. This position is responsible for ensuring program excellence, alignment with our mission, responsiveness to community needs, and strategic growth. Our administrative staff operates cohesively as a team, with primary responsibilities of the Director of Programs and Community Outreach outlined below. It’s important to note that organizational responsibilities may be shared or redistributed as needed.
Program Development:
- Work with department chairs and faculty to envision and develop new and existing programs that align with the Music Academy’s mission.
- Assist with program budgets.
- Collaborate with administrative staff to ensure programs are executed efficiently and effectively (e.g., scheduling, staffing, and promoting).
- Maintain communications with participating artist faculty regarding expectations, schedules, policies, locations, enrollment updates, and other details relevant to the successful delivery of all programs and activities.
- Maintain communications with registered families and all participants about policies, expectations, schedule changes, inclement weather, etc.
- Gather feedback from participants, partners, and faculty for continuous improvement.
- Evaluate and track program outcomes, participation, and community impact. Community Engagement
- Assist with identifying potential new community partners to represent a broad and diverse range of constituents.
- Maintain communications with school administrators, wellness directors, and other points of contact to ensure programs and activities run smoothly.
- Coordinate all off-site instructional and performance activities including weekly after-school classes, school-day music instruction, summer camps offered in partnership with other organizations, and outreach performances and instrument demonstrations.
- Oversee all scheduling of performances, small group instruction, and instrument demonstrations delivered as part of the Lessons for Life Outreach Program (fully and partially funded activities and programs). Qualifications
- Experience in program management, community outreach, or related roles, preferably in a nonprofit and/or musical arts setting.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Passion for community engagement and mission-driven work.
