We’re looking for a talented and dynamic Director of Communications to join our team at the New Jersey Coalition for Automotive Retailers (NJ CAR).

About Us:

NJ CAR is a prominent force in the automotive retail space, advocating for automotive dealers across New Jersey. We provide a range of programs and services to strengthen the industry, foster innovation, and support our members. As our Director of Communications, you’ll be at the forefront of delivering clear, compelling, and engaging messages across multiple platforms.

What You’ll Do:

As the Director of Communications, you’ll work closely with the President and internal teams to develop and execute communications strategies that resonate with our members, legislators, the media, and the public. You’ll have the opportunity to lead the organization’s internal and external communications, from social media to press releases, newsletters to grassroots campaigns.

Key Responsibilities:

Internal & Dealer Communications:

• Create and distribute engaging content including a digital newsletter (6 times per year) and a quarterly magazine.
• Design and implement grassroots campaigns that connect with dealership owners and employees.
• Support the promotion of key NJ CAR programs like NJ CAR Academy, EV Training, and Zero Injury Program.
• Contribute to strategic messaging for various stakeholders, from legislative issues to internal updates.

External Communications & PR:

• Manage the NJ CAR website and ensure all content reflects our strategic vision.
• Write and pitch opinion pieces to media outlets, promoting the voice of automotive dealers.
• Create impactful Public Service Announcements (PSAs), advertisements, and educational content.
• Lead media outreach and promote dealer participation in events like EV Ride & Drive across New Jersey.

Social Media & Digital Communications:

• Oversee and grow NJ CAR’s social media presence.
• Lead a paid social media campaign to promote the benefits of the franchise system.
• Engage with New Jersey legislators and other stakeholders on social media to amplify our mission.
• Champion and share positive dealership stories to a wider audience across digital channels.

What We’re Looking For:

• 5 to 7 years proven experience in communications, public relations, or marketing, ideally within the automotive or retail industries.
• Expertise in managing social media platforms, email campaigns, and website content.
• A creative mindset with the ability to design campaigns and content that engage, inform, and inspire.
• Strong writing and editing skills – from press releases to newsletters to executive presentations.
• Familiarity with digital tools (AI platforms, scheduling tools, design software) to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
