Job Description

Elmira College is a private liberal arts College located in the Finger Lakes region of New York. Seeking innovative professionals from diverse backgrounds to fill the position of Coordinator of Community Engagement to join the Center for Academic & Professional Excellence (CAPE) team.

The Center for Academic and Professional Excellence (CAPE) is a centralized student support hub with a goal of improving students’ academic success, career readiness, and persistence to graduation. Using a growth mindset model, our staff empower and support all students in developing the skills and confidence they need to achieve their academic and professional goals in college and throughout their lives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provide support of the Community Engagement requirement within the Center for Academic and Professional Excellence (CAPE);
  • Promote meaningful integration of Community Engagement (volunteerism) into the student experience;
  • Cultivate community partnerships (e.g., public schools, non-profits, social service agencies, etc.) to strengthen Elmira College’s impact in the local community;
  • Host community partners on campus for student networking events, particularly the Community Engagement Fair;
  • Coordinate volunteer programs, events, and engagement opportunities designed to reach, welcome, and meet the needs of our student population and promote their participation in Community Engagement experiences, including First Year, First Service);
  • Advertise Community Engagement initiatives, activities, and events;
  • Collaborate with student clubs and organizations to facilitate ongoing support of local agencies with shared missions;
  • Oversee all students’ Community Engagement completion and maintain reports (attendance, completion, and satisfaction) on a monthly basis;
  • Work with the Office of Alumni Engagement to identify alumni and friends of the college for networking, educational, and mentoring opportunities;
  • Maintain positive customer service to all students, faculty, and staff;
  • Provide support to the Director of CAPE through general administrative tasks;
  • Commit to occasional evening and weekend hours for programs, events, and community meetings (approx. 4x per year);
  • Support CAPE operations through collaboration, cross training, and administrative assistance; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in human services, non-profits, community organizing, or education;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Understanding of best practices in human resource management; and
  • Ability to develop and maintain knowledge of community and campus resources to ensure timely and efficient referrals when appropriate.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment with frequent public contact and interruptions. Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to sit for prolonged periods of time; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard.
