$55,000 – $75,000 per year, based on experience Civil Service Title(s): Community Liaison Specialist (Competitive) Job Description The Community Schools Specialist is responsible for supporting school districts’ initiatives to improve student achievement and foster positive relationships between the district, students, parents, and the community. This role involves promoting the establishment and development of Community Schools strategies, which include a rigorous academic program with strong supports, a comprehensive range of school-based and school-linked programs and services, and partnerships that demonstrate collaboration with the local community. The Community Schools Specialist reports directly to and works under the general supervision of the Regional Community Schools Coordinator.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Build relationships with community agencies, government departments, and districts Support Community Schools CoSer participants with technical assistance and resources to implement the Community Schools strategy with fidelity Assist the Regional Community Schools Coordinator in researching and drafting contracts with community agencies to provide services and support to the participating districts and finalizing contracts through our business office Develop, conduct, and analyze community assets and needs assessment to gather data and feedback about available resources and needs Represent Community Schools at community collaborative meetings (e.g. Suicide Prevention) Participate in research and writing of federal, state, and local grant proposals with Regional Community Schools Coordinator, community partners, and school districts Manage the day-to-day communications and scheduling of the Community Schools CoSer Leverage social media and digital platforms to publicize Community Schools in our region Schedule Community Schools related trainings with component districts and internally for Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES Support the implementation of Community Schools strategies in programs and departments at Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES Assist with organization and facilitation of
Community of Practice:
Participate in capacity-building activities, including initiative-wide and site-based training, network meetings and study visits, and with the administrative team, ensure the participation of site-based staff as needed or required. Represent the initiative in various public forums as needed and participate in advocacy activities to promote the initiative, i.e. attending the NYS Community School Advocacy Day, NYS Community Schools Steering Committee. Liaison between the community, the New York State Education Department, other school systems, and professional organizations. Prepare written reports and oral presentations. Other duties as assigned Job Qualifications Knowledge of students and community challenges affecting educational systems. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, professional staff, parents, and community representatives. Strong teamwork, interpersonal, and communication skills. Creation and implementation of professional learning for adults. Analysis of data to promote continuous improvement. Must possess or meet requirements for Civil Service title of Community Liaison Speccialist (Competitive). Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus
EITHER:
(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s degree plus five (5) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent professional
- experience in counseling, casework, or youth advocacy, all of which must be in an educational, government or community agency setting dealing with youth or student services OR, (B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Human Services, Community Services, Sociology, Psychology or a closely related field, plus two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent professional• experience as defined in (A) above; OR, (C) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s degree, plus three (3) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent professional• experience as defined in (A) above; OR, (D) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Master’s degree in one of the fields mentioned in (B) above, plus one (1) year paid full-time or its part-time equivalent professional• experience as defined in (A) above; OR, (E) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Master’s degree, plus two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent professional• experience as defined in (A) above; OR, (F) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A),(B), (C), (D) and (E) above.
