Job Description The Agency You’ll Join The New York City Mayor’s Office is responsible for overseeing city services throughout the five boroughs, coordinating public agencies and departments, and managing public property. New York City Mayor Eric Adams is head of the executive branch of New York City’s government. Previously, Mayor Adams has served the people of New York City as an NYPD officer, state senator, and Brooklyn borough president. The Team You’ll Work With The Mayor’s Press Office at City Hall is responsible for media monitoring, responding to media inquiries, preparing senior administration officials for media interviews, and planning media events designed to communicate accurate, timely information to the public. The Problems You’ll Solve Working in the New York City Mayor’s Press Office at City Hall, reporting to the Mayor’s Press Secretary and working closely with the Chief of Staff, Deputy Press Secretaries, and Communications team, the MPOPA will provide administrative support and be responsible for aiding the office in handling the day-to-day operations.

  • Compiling daily morning press clips, meeting, and event materials.
  • Handling the calendar of the press secretary.
  • Monitoring the media throughout the day through various platforms.
  • Maintaining media lists, internal and external office contacts.
  • Drafting media advisories, press releases, public schedules, talking points, and other briefing documents for the press office team, media, and public.
  • Advising and pitching events and stories.
  • Sitting in on meetings and staffing events to record and take notes to be shared with the team.
  • Assisting the press office and communications team with other projects and tasks, as needed.
  • Work non-traditional hours and be on-call regularly, including weekends, holidays, and emergency situations.
  • Operate in a fast-paced environment, with a high level of professionalism, often under short deadlines and in high-pressure situations. About You
  • You have advanced writing skills.
  • You have the ability and experience to balance multiple responsibilities and deadlines.
  • You must be highly motivated, organized, and energetic, and must have a very high attention to detail.
  • You have exceptional people skills, a good sense of humor, and are politically savvy.
  • You are a self-starter who does not need to be micro-managed.

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in administration, research, management, analytical work, community work or community activities; or 2. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of experience as described in “1” above; or 3. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and/or experience. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience in administration, research, management, analytical work, community work or community activities.
