- Develop, maintain, and lead the execution of communications plans that secure buy-in on key Authority initiatives, both to facilitate and celebrate their successful completion;
- Manage and coordinate all internal and external resources in pursuit of these plans. Resources include but are not limited to a team of two full-time professionals, including a Vice President and Assistant Director; external consultants; an advertising, partnerships, and printing/mailing budget; and numerous active communication channels at the Authority;
- Spearhead a targeted and multi-year campaign to spread awareness of the Authority’s resiliency work and its impacts prior to and throughout the project’s construction;
- Help sharpen and clarify the BPCA voice across social media, email, web materials, public presentations, earned media, and other outlets;
- Lead a re-design of the BPCA website;
- Coordinate outreach to elected officials;
- Be a nimble, proactive, creative voice for BPCA, looking for new ways to engage key stakeholders in the neighborhood, in NYC, and in NY State;
- Proactively drive BPCA’s messaging with the media, elected officials, residents, Manhattan Community Board 1, local organizations, and those beyond Battery Park City’s borders that can be included in support of its mission;
- Represent the Authority at public meetings and events, including those outside of normal business hours;
- Experience with managing graphic design projects and visual story telling; and
- Other duties as assigned.
The minimum qualifications required for this vacancy. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree. At least ten (10) years of relevant work experience. Experience working in government helpful but not required. Interest and desire to help explain and distill complicated public policy and infrastructure projects to a broad range of stakeholders and creatively find ways to meet people where they are to explain the work of the BPCA are musts. Additional Comments The Senior Vice President (SVP) of Communications and Public Affairs is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive set of strategies for communicating to and engaging with external stakeholders in pursuit of the Authority’s goals. These goals include, among others, the successful execution of the Authority’s portfolio of resiliency projects, the responsible management of its real estate assets, the first-class maintenance and programming of its 36 acres of parks and public spaces, and extensive cultural and recreational programming. The SVP will be a senior leader in the organization, helping to shape the BPCA message and helping get that message out to constituents and stakeholders at the neighborhood, city, and state levels. The SVP will be interested in developing new and creative ways to reach the tens of thousands of people who live, work, and visit BPC every day while still being proficient in the traditional digital, print media landscape. The SVP will also be a strong relationship builder – forging strong working relationships with elected officials, community members, advocacy organizations and other key partners.
