Background
Geneva Call is a neutral and impartial international humanitarian organization dedicated to the protection of civilians in zones of conflict. To achieve this, it engages Armed Groups and De Facto Authorities (AGDAs) to encourage their respect for international humanitarian norms. Through dialogue and innovative tools such as Deeds of Commitment, Geneva Call operates in some of the world’s most challenging conflict zones to reduce human suffering and promote adherence to international humanitarian law (IHL).
Geneva Call is looking for a short-term consultancy assignment (August – September) aimed at advising, supporting and coordinating its engagement during the upcoming UN General Assembly High-Level Week. This engagement will consist of hosting, co-hosting or actively participating in side-events related to the protection of civilians as well as high-level bilateral meetings with a wide range of Member States, IO, UN and CSO representatives.
Responsibilities & Deliverables
Pre-UNGA (August – Early September)
Map relevant stakeholders and gather strategic insights to inform Geneva Call’s high-level engagement strategy.
Develop event concepts and coordinate closely with co-organizers to align messaging and logistics.
Identify and secure opportunities for key bilateral and multilateral meetings during UNGA.
Collaborate with Geneva Call leadership to prepare tailored briefing materials for scheduled meetings.
During UNGA Week (22-26 September)
Serve as the liaison with partner organizations, capturing immediate feedback and key takeaways from each interaction.
Provide on-site support for meetings and events involving Geneva Call, ensuring visibility and impact.
Manage logistical aspects to guarantee seamless execution of engagements and side-events.
Post-UNGA (Late September)
Produce a brief summary report capturing outcomes, lessons learned, and strategic recommendations for follow-up.
Profile & Qualifications
Essential Qualifications
Proficiency in English.
Based in the U.S. with valid work authorization, ensuring availability and ability to work independently without additional sponsorship.
Legally registered as an independent consultant, able to invoice and operate in compliance with local regulations.
5 to 7 years of professional experience in humanitarian affairs, advocacy, or diplomacy, with a proven track record of navigating complex multilateral environments.
In-depth familiarity with the dynamics of the UN General Assembly High-Level Week, including its institutional processes, key stakeholders, and strategic opportunities.
Solid knowledge of international humanitarian policy, particularly related to the protection of civilians in armed conflict.
Demonstrated experience in organizing and supporting high-level events or meetings, including multistakeholder coordination and content preparation.
Strong interpersonal and political sensitivity, with the ability to engage confidently with senior officials, partners, and diverse stakeholders in high-pressure environments.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional background with Permanent Missions, UN agencies, or humanitarian NGOs, offering insight into diplomatic and operational processes.
Established professional network in New York City, particularly within the UN and humanitarian community, to facilitate strategic connections and engagements.
Duration & Location
August to the end of September 2025 for an estimated level of efforts of ca. 20 days.
Remote U.S.-based, with in-person presence in New York required at least 5 days in early September and during UNGA (at least from19-25 September).
Remuneration
Competitive daily/monthly consultancy rate.
Payments based on deliverables as per contract.
