Job DescriptionThe Agency You’ll JoinThe New York City Mayor’s Office is responsible for overseeing city services throughout the fiveboroughs, coordinating public agencies and departments, and managing public property. The Team You’ll Work WithThe Mayor’s Office for International Affairs serves as the liaison between the City and New York City’sinternational community, which includes 193 Permanent Missions, 116 Consulates, over 70 TradeCommissions, and the headquarters of the United Nations. The Office functions as a global platform fromwhich the City can promote its goals for a more just and equitable society, showcase the diversity of NewYorkers, and share best practices with the world. The Office also works to foster positive relations andto encourage collaboration between the international community and New York City’s agencies and localneighborhoods.
The Problems You’ll SolveThe Strategic Relationships Director (SRD) will support the office in carrying out a strategic effort tohighlight the work of city agencies and their best practices, including through joint programming andpartnerships with NYC agencies, Consulates, Permanent Missions, and the United Nations. The SRD willbe responsible for developing and implementing a strategic plan for the Office’s engagement withConsulates, Permanent Missions, and the United Nations, with a special focus on Asia and the MiddleEast. The SRD will also play a critical role in delivering on the Office’s core operational and protocolobligations, including facilitating the visits of delegations from governments (municipal, state, federal)around the world while continuing to foster the strong relationship between the broad diplomaticcommunity and the City. Finally, the SRD will develop strategies for engaging the diplomatic corpsthrough events, meetings, and other opportunities.
Working closely with the Deputy Commissioner and colleagues, the SRD will
- Develop and implement an annual strategic plan focused on fostering positive relationshipsbetween NYC and international stakeholders
- Design events and content to foster a closer relationship between the diplomatic communityand NYC and arrange opportunities for members of the diplomatic community and Cityagencies to share knowledge and take action
- Develop and implement a strategy for engaging the stakeholders related to Asia and the MiddleEast
- Support the Chief of Staff in managing daily operations and engagements to ensure efficiency
- Develop a network of contacts at agencies throughout City government, City institutions,Permanent Missions, Consulates, and the United Nations to generate ideas for substance,commitments, and action and drive partnerships with the international community
- Provide support, including administrative support, related to visiting delegations of governmentofficials from around the world
- Manage day-to-day administration and record-keeping related to partnerships, including dataentry, management of a strategic relationship database, and maintaining relevant contacts
- Work on other special projects as assigned.
About You
- You have a Bachelor’s degree
- You have experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation, particularlywith international projects and partners
- You have robust relationship management experience involving diverse groups and individuals
- You have strong knowledge of key stakeholders and constituencies in New York Citygovernment and New York’s international community
- You have strong facilitation and communication skills (written and oral)
- You have an interest in youth empowerment, education, service learning, communityorganizing, and sustainable development desired
- You must have the ability to (a) work independently, (b) actively seek collaboration, (c) supportcolleagues in their work, and (d) work in a multicultural, multilingual environment
- You must have excellent planning, project management, and organizational skills
- You must be results and solution-oriented
- You must have a demonstrated ability to acquire and understand new information/data rapidly
- You have a minimum of five years of relevant work experience.
