Chief of Staff Location:
Lansdale, PA (on-site) Full-time, salaried (with benefits) About the Role VMSC Emergency Medical Services is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking leader to oversee our Communications Center. This isn’t a back-office scheduling or call intake job—it’s a strategic and technical leadership position focused on improving how we communicate with our crews, our partners, and the communities we serve. You’ll be responsible for managing day-to-day dispatch operations while also thinking ahead: how can we automate intake processes, streamline crew communications, improve the reliability of our CAD (Logis), and position our Communications Center as a trusted, innovative partner for non-emergency dispatch and support services to other EMS agencies? We want someone who’s ready to help redefine what EMS communications looks like—both internally and externally. That means having the operational insight to lead your team well, the technical competence to manage and improve our tools, and the creativity to help us grow. Key Responsibilities Oversee all aspects of VMSC’s EMS Communications Center, ensuring effective 24/7 operations across multiple service areas. Supervise and develop dispatch and call-taking personnel, focusing on quality, accountability, and professional growth. Lead and improve the non-emergency intake process—including transfers, prior authorization steps, and coordination with sending facilities. Ensure timely and accurate documentation that supports clean billing, partnering closely with the Revenue Cycle and Billing Teams. Partner with field operations to improve coordination, response efficiency, and trust between crews and dispatch. Manage and optimize use of Logis CAD and related systems (AVL, mapping, EMD protocols, scheduling integrations). Work with internal developers and tech leads to automate intake processes (e.g., interfacility transfer requests, RED Alert system). Implement performance metrics and reporting for call-taking, dispatching, and response coordination. Explore and pursue opportunities to grow VMSC’s Communications Center into a regional provider of non-emergency dispatch and communications support for other EMS agencies. Lead continuous improvement projects, including technology rollouts, process reviews, and integration of AI and analytics. Serve as the central point of contact for communications-related issues, upgrades, vendor relationships, and compliance. Represent the dispatch function in organizational meetings, system redesigns, and external stakeholder communications. What We’re Looking For 3-5+ years of progressive experience in public safety communications, preferably in EMS or fire-based dispatch. Proven leadership or supervisory experience in a dispatch or emergency communications setting. Strong understanding of CAD systems (experience with Logis is a major plus). Technical aptitude—comfortable learning, evaluating, and helping implement new software or automated workflows. Solid grasp of EMS field operations and how communication can enhance performance, safety, and satisfaction. Forward-thinking mindset, ready to help shape the future of regional EMS dispatching. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with operations, admin, IT, and external partners. Bonus Points Experience implementing or managing dispatch automation or AI-enhanced workflows. Familiarity with structured dispatch protocols, medical call triage systems, or QA/QI models. Knowledge of regional EMS systems and interest in expanding communications partnerships. Project management experience, especially with system implementations or process overhauls.
