The Philabundance Communications Manager is responsible for collaborating with the Director of Communications on the strategy, development, and execution of marketing and communication materials, media relations, and social media to meet the organizational goals and Philabundance’s broad communications strategies. Position requires a highly creative individual with strong writing and editing skills who can take conceptual ideas and develop powerful messaging that advances Philabundance’s mission while maintaining brand and editorial standards. Final deliverables should increase public awareness and inspire others to donate, volunteer or give voice to hunger.

Primary Responsibilities:

Manage major elements of Philabundance’s communications plan, focusing on content development (print and electronic) and current and emerging social media. Project lead on gathering written or spoken ideas/requests from others and create marketing and communication materials (news stories, press releases, social media content, messaging strategies, website content, and more) that connect with the targeted audience in the medium that will reach them best. Develops content and helps direct creative execution to provide a consistent, targeted, and impactful message. Builds and maintains solid partnerships with assigned internal clients to better develop, coordinate, direct, and facilitate strategic communications designed to meet business goals. Helps create campaigns to target specific audiences, placing an emphasis and discipline on campaign performance to help with recommendations for future programs. Contributes ideas for new campaigns, research and recommending innovative and cost-efficient branding opportunities. Identifies and presents opportunities for consistency in messaging and customer experience across channels including the Philabundance website, social media, and print. Ensures that collateral and branding materials are high-quality and consistent with Philabundance’s brand and editorial standards Extreme flexibility and ability to work on multiple projects at one time and under tight deadlines. Supports events and other special projects through promotion, marketing, and communication. Analyzes data, such as the results from online campaigns and advertising, using it to strengthen forthcoming marketing efforts and provides reports for management. Develops new visibility opportunities for partners (awards, ads, EG), leveraging a variety of social media platforms. Oversees work with press that includes press conferences, pitching stories, and responding to requests. Serves as a developer of communications calendar and high-profile stewardship collateral, including, but not limited to, an annual report, brochures, presentations, emails, reports, and more. Identifies trends and monitors current events and/or influencers to create engagement and stewardship opportunities on topics related to food insecurity. Responsible for supporting and aligning with Philabundance Cultural pillars. Ensure communications, actions and interactions reflect a focus on People, Professionalism, Partnerships, and Progress.

Education Achievement:

High School Diploma or GED required. Extended Degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Business, Social Services, or related topics is a plus. Education or experience equal to a bachelor’s degree, minimum of 4 years direct experience in marketing, communications, public relations or related area of expertise.

Work Experience:

Minimum of 3 years related experience, ideally with non-profit, commercial, or public relations environment creating marketing and communications assets, with a strong portfolio of work. Demonstrated social media marketing and interaction experience. Knowledge of editorial style, best practices for different media and platforms, grammar, and typography; . Experience working with third-party vendors. Experience in copyediting and providing other quality control checks, as needed. Experience working within a continuous content production environment is preferred.

Required Skills and Abilities:

Successful experience with problem solving and possesses ability to stay nimble in a fast-paced, evolving environment. Strong capability to work within budgets, leverage databases, produce timely reports, communication, analysis, and present internally and externally.

Excellent interpersonal skills:

ability to build strong relationships and work collaboratively with individuals and teams internally and externally. An exceptional communicator, both in writing and orally; previous public speaking or teaching experience preferred. Ability to speak multiple languages a plus. Fluency with Spanish helpful. Experience with AP Style a plus An understanding of how content design, layout, and delivery correlate with copy. Knowledge of Microsoft products; Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Publisher Basic knowledge of

HTML /CSS

is preferred, particularly WordPress, is a plus. Excellent eye for detail.

Physical Demands:

Must have the ability to be available evenings, weekends and take on extended hours as business needs demand. Up to 50 % of travel, high percentage is regional, is required. Must be willing and able to travel within and outside of the service area (employee can use public transportation, rideshare service, personal vehicle, or other means) Must be physically compatible with travel, office visits, events, and meetings. Must have valid driver’s license if using company vehicle. Work in a seated position up to 8 hours a day, 5 days a week; Bend, stoop/squat, and walk intermittently throughout the day; Must be able to move up to 20 pounds. Shared supported lift is preferred, two people can move objects to lower impact. See, hear, and speak with sufficient capability to perform assigned tasks and maintain proper safety conditions. Maintain an acceptable work pace and align with required personal and team deadlines. Must meet goals. Demonstrate cognitive ability to provide direction as well as follow directions and routines, work independently with appropriate judgment, read words and numbers, concentrate, memorize, recall, identify logical connections and determine sequence of response, process proactively and identify near and long-term future needs as well as evaluate problems and escalate/inform management as is necessary. Perform office tasks using simple hand grasp, fine hand manipulation, and reach associated with assigned tasks such as keying.
