PUBLIC

RELATIONS DIRECTOR

Washington County is seeking a highly motivated and versatile Public Relations Director to lead the County’s communications and outreach efforts. This position will serve as the primary community liaison, coordinate social media platforms, manage public messaging, support press operations, and contribute to grant research and writing. The ideal candidate will be a skilled communicator, proactive storyteller, and capable content creator who can represent the County with professionalism and creativity.

Key Responsibilities:

Public Relations & Communications

  • Serve as the County’s official spokesperson and liaison to the public, media, and community organizations.
  • Draft and distribute press releases, official statements, and talking points.
  • Coordinate press events, including creating informational binders and visual aids.
  • Manage media inquiries and foster positive relationships with local, regional, and state media outlets. Community Engagement
  • Represent the County at public meetings, events, and forums to share initiatives and gather community feedback.
  • Cultivate partnerships with local stakeholders, nonprofits, and civic leaders.
  • Ensure timely and accurate public information dissemination during emergencies or major County events. Produce events. Digital Content & Media
  • Oversee County social media channels, including content creation, posting schedules, and performance tracking.
  • Develop and produce high-quality video content for social media, websites, and presentations.
  • Maintain consistency in branding and messaging across all platforms and departments. Prepare and development quarterly newsletter. Grant Writing & Development
  • Research and identify funding opportunities relevant to County priorities.
  • Draft compelling grant proposals, letters of support, and funding reports in collaboration with County departments.
  • Maintain grant documentation and ensure compliance with submission requirements and deadlines.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in public relations, media relations, communications, or a related role.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with experience crafting press releases and grant proposals.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and grow social media platforms in a professional capacity.
  • Proficiency in video production and editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Canva, Final Cut Pro, etc.).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent public speaking and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of local government functions and community engagement strategies is preferred.
Additional Requirements:
  • Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Availability for evening and weekend events, as needed.
