Communications Strategist
Full Time Exempt Position, Based in Tennessee. Supervised by the Senior Director of Communications.

The (TIRRC) is a statewide, immigrant and refugee-led collaboration. Our mission is to build power, amplify our voices, and organize communities to advocate for our rights. Our vision is a stronger, more inclusive Tennessee where people of all nationalities, immigration statuses, and racial identities can belong and thrive. TIRRC has a sister organization, TIRRC Votes, a separate, but related, nonprofit organization that is exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code. Although TIRRC and TIRRC Votes share a common goal of building power for immigrants and refugees in Tennessee, they are separate organizations with their own board of directors. A set of employees at the two organizations, including the person filling this position, shares their time between the two organizations. This has no effect on salary or benefits.
ABOUT THE POSITION
TIRRC is seeking a strategic, proven communicator to lead our earned media strategy, align and manage communications efforts across departments, and maintain organizational messaging to drive our policy, advocacy, and narrative change goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Work collaboratively across teams to develop communications plans and strategies to support
organizational goals, proactively shift the public narrative around immigration in Tennessee, and build
support for advocacy and policy priorities; -
Monitor and interpret the latest messaging guidance, public opinion research, and media coverage in
order to develop organizational messaging, write talking points, and provide guidance for staff and
partners; -
Secure earned media placements/pitch media stories that advance campaign, narrative change, and
organizational goals; -
Train and build the capacity of immigrant and refugee leaders and organizational partners to be
effective spokespeople about issues and campaigns; -
Develop and sustain working relationships with key local and national media outlets to ensure
significant issues are covered, proactive messaging frames are reinforced, and both our organizational
perspective and the voices of immigrant and refugee leaders are included; -
Develop messaging, talking points, and organizational statements in response to breaking news events
impacting our campaigns and movement, and work with digital organizer to capitalize on opportunities
for rapid response digital strategies; -
Maintain editorial calendar of email communications, social media content, and in some cases direct
mail through working across tea; -
Support the digital organizer in the planning, creation, and editing of content for digital channels,
website, social media, and digital ads; -
Support the marketing coordinator in the planning, creation, and editing of email campaigns, social
media content, and organizational marketing materials; -
Manage communications contractors and part-time employees, as budget allows; -
Support the overall strategic efforts of the organization, including organization-wide events such as Day
On The Hill, our annual convention, and InterNASHional Night Market, campaigns, and fundraising; -
Maintain accurate data including updating organizational databases, collecting spokesperson
information, and curating accurate media lists.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Belief in TIRRC’s mission and commitment to social justice;
- 3+ years of experience in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, policy advocacy, or related field;
- Fluency in English required with excellent writing and editing skills, fluency in another language preferred;
- Demonstrated ability to work on deadline, be highly organized, work independently, and maintain accountability and strong communication with others in collaborative projects;
- Experience with or willingness to learn Google Suite, social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Bluesky Statusbrew, etc.
); customer relationship management and email marketing tools (EveryAction); SMS texting and relational organizing tools (Hustle, ThruText, Reach, etc.); public relations software (Prowly); and other tools as needed.
SALARY AND BENEFITS PACKAGE
Salary Range:
$58,000-68,000 depending on experience with relocation support available.
