$49.5K – $59K a year 20 hours ago Qualifications Senior level Editing Full Job Description The Scientific Communications Manager contributes to advancing the College’s research enterprise by supporting the Senior Vice President for Research and Innovation and the Office for Research and Innovation (OfRI) in developing high-quality scientific content. Responsibilities include editing research grant applications and proposals with institution-wide applicability to federal and private funding agencies and sponsors; scientific manuscripts and books; strategic marketing materials for research fundraising campaigns, and a broad range of other scholarly scientific communication products requiring substantive scientific editing. The role will also engage with discovery science to help amplify the impact of Meharry’s research portfolio. The position leads the OfR scientific communications team and directly supervises the Research Communications Editor and Research Social Media Coordinator. In addition, the position will also collaborate with the editorial team of the Journal of Health Care for the Poor and Underserved (JHCPU) to elevate the visibility and impact of the journal’s published content. Additionally, the Scientific Communications Manager will develop written materials and presentations to support research advancement and fundraising initiatives, showcase Meharry’s scientific legacy by documenting Meharry’s scientific contributions and profiling Meharry researchers and institutional milestones, enhance the visibility of JHCPU, and contribute to the College’s sesquicentennial programming by curating archival and contemporary research narratives. Participate in proposal development meetings and engage in scientific writing for grant applications to federal funding agencies, non-profit funding organizations, and foundations, as well as university intramural opportunities. Write, edit, proof-read, and format institutional grant proposals for submission, resubmission, and peer review, including domestic, international, multi-disciplinary, and multi-site project proposals. Analyze complex funding solicitations by creating master lists of required content, developing preliminary proposal outlines, tracking updates to solicitations and/or FAQs. Create, revise and edit drafts of scientific works, including research proposals, manuscripts, books, marketing materials for research fund-raising campaigns, and other scientific written products such as executive summaries, graphics, tables, conclusions, and organization credentials. Lead the OfRI scientific communications team and directly supervise Research Communications Editor and Research Social Media Coordinator Showcase Meharry’s scientific legacy by compiling and drafting materials on Meharry researchers, and contribute to Meharry’s sesquicentennial programming. Collaborate with the Journal of Health Care for the Poor and Underserved (JHCPU) team to elevate the visibility of scientific content published in JHCPU Assist implementation teams in drafting compelling progress reports, targeted program updates, and/or research publications as directed by supervisor. Performs other related duties as assigned.
