Communications, Marketing, and Public Affairs Job Description The College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for the new position of Director of Strategic Marketing and Communications. Under the direction of the Dean, the Director of Strategic Marketing and Communications exists to lead a team of marketing and communications professionals and to provide strategic leadership to enhance the visibility and reputation of both the College of Veterinary Medicine and the Veterinary Medical Center. Responsibilities Strategic Leadership
Working with College’s Senior Leadership, develops and implements comprehensive marketing and communications strategies that align with and amplify the College’s goals and objectives. Understands target audiences and external influences and strives for positive engagement. Stays abreast of the latest marketing technologies and trends to keep the college at the forefront of developments in marketing. Plans and executes strategy and deliverables for advertising opportunities that advance the reputation of the CVM. Fosters collaboration with academic and clinical leaders to enhance visibility of programs and research initiatives and serves as a liaison between the College and the UTIA Marketing and Communications team, and key communications offices across the Knoxville area. Works collaboratively with deans, department heads, and directors to develop strategy, time lines, and desired outcomes for various programs. Provides strategic counsel to the Dean and leadership team. Plans, evaluates, and reports on goals and long-range marketing strategies.
Communications and Reputation Management
Proactively manages public relations efforts to maintain a positive image for the College and Veterinary Medical Center, including crisis communication planning. Increases awareness and elevates the reputation of the College through innovative campaigns, media relations, internal communications, digital presence, events, and community engagement. Reviews and approves all media releases, and works with UTIA Marketing and Communications for distribution to statewide media releases. Develops plan for effective internal communications within the College.
Brand Management
Works closely with UTIA Marketing and Communications and UT Knoxville Office of Communications and Marketing to develop and steward a cohesive brand identity for the College. Oversees visual brand identity and messaging. Develops and implements College and UTIA policies regarding brand use. Establishes design themes for the college’s outward facing media.
Annual Planning
Oversees the development and execution of an annual strategic marketing and communications plan tailored to meet specific goals and to promote philanthropy. Develops action items and measurement tools to determine success. Prepares and administers the College’s marketing and communication budget for maximum effectiveness.
Team Management
Leads, mentors, and manages a dedicated team of marketing and communications professionals to ensure cohesive execution of plans. Provides guidance and work direction, prioritizes projects, establishes deadlines, and approves final products. Manages performance, completes annual evaluations, and makes recommendations for salary improvement. Provides opportunities for professional development.

Qualifications Required Qualifications:
Education:

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, strategic communications or related field

Experience:

At least 7 years of proven experience in strategic marketing, communications, or public relations roles

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Demonstrated ability to lead teams effectively while fostering a collaborative environment.
Demonstrated ability to work through influence across complex organizations to achieve objectives.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exert discretion when communicating on sensitive issues.
Strong skills in developing and implementing strategic plans with measurable outcomes.
Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Strong knowledge and proficiency in current digital technologies and softwares.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
