Job Summary:
The Communications Specialist supports the planning and execution of internal communication strategies that increase employee engagement, promote departmental initiatives, and enhance awareness of key messages within the division. This role involves developing and delivering high-quality, creative content across a range of digital and print platforms while ensuring alignment with UAB’s brand standards. This position requires strong writing, multimedia, and project management skills, with a proactive mindset and an ability to manage multiple priorities. The Communications Specialist will also support the planning and execution of events, providing communication and logistics support for internal HR programs and leadership and learning development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Execute internal communication strategies that support employee engagement and information sharing across the department and division. Draft, edit, and produce content for various communication platforms, including: Internal websites (JOOMLA and other CMS platforms) Salesforce Marketing Cloud emails and newsletters Social media and intranet channels Print materials and advertisements Presentations and videos Create professional multimedia materials including images, graphics, icons, and video for UAB, Human Resources, and Leadership and Learning Development programs. Monitor and assess communication effectiveness using available analytics; provide insights and make recommendations for improvement. Ensure branding consistency and make strategic use of available technology for integrated messaging. Assist HR Leadership with event planning, promotion, management, and execution for internal engagement and training programs. Demonstrate a high level of attention to detail in proofreading and formatting, and manage content calendars and deadlines. Maintain a strong portfolio of communication/design work to showcase capabilities and creative execution.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field At least one (1) year of relevant experience

Preferred Experience:
2-5 years of experience in:
- Salesforce Marketing Cloud

(Advanced User Level)
- Layout and design of marketing emails and websites
- Experience with Aquia CMS is a plus Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro, etc.
) Strong portfolio of written and visual communication samples (required upon request)
