Communication Coordinator First Congregational Church of Woodstock 543 Route 169, Woodstock, CT 06281 Are you a skilled communicator with a knack for organization and a heart for community? The First Congregational Church of Woodstock (FCCW) is seeking a part-time Communications Coordinator to help us connect, communicate, and collaborate more effectively. This critical role supports our mission by enhancing communication among our pastor, staff, leaders, volunteers, congregants, and the wider community. POSITION SUMMARY
The Communications Coordinator will be responsible for managing the church’s various communication channels and providing essential administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of our office. This role requires a blend of independent initiative and collaborative spirit, with an emphasis on proactive problem-solving and the ability to learn from experience to streamline processes and reuse content.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Proactively plan, create, and execute timely and effective communications in consultation with the pastor, teams, and volunteers, ensuring alignment with church goals and appropriately addressing the needs and concerns of intended audiences. Maintains church calendar(s), coordinating with staff and teams for event scheduling. Organizes, edits, and distributes electronic and paper newsletters, (e.g., weekly, monthly, bi-monthly), weekly worship related support materials, brochures, annual report and other occasional documents. Updates and maintains related content on the church’s website, Facebook page, Google Drive, etc. Explore and identify ways to enhance communication, collaboration, content creation. Ensures callers and visitors feel welcomed and are connected to the appropriate people and resources. Effectively organizes, documents files and data; and manages and continuously improves related tasks and processes. Updates and maintains congregant and visitor information in the primary contact database. Orders related supplies and services for the church (e.g., paper, ink, postage, etc.) and manages inventory. Documents associated tasks, processes, policies, and practices to foster collaboration. Maintain proficiency with administrative systems and technologies (e.g., copier, phones), serving as a primary contact for troubleshooting minor issues.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to Create, edit, and format effective communications for diverse platforms. Proactively and creatively problem-solve, anticipating communication needs and proposing solutions. Collaborate, coordinate, and work effectively with various church stakeholders. Work independently with minimal supervision, taking initiative to manage tasks and projects. Prioritize requests, manage multiple deadlines effectively, and seek clarification when needed. Honor confidentiality and model healthy communication practices. Help improve and adapt tasks and processes to enhance effectiveness and efficiency. Demonstrate an aptitude for quickly learning new technologies. Learn from past experiences and adapt content and processes for future use, ensuring consistency. Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (especially MS Word), Google Drive/Docs, content creation such as Canva or PowerPoint, and using/posting to Social Media.
EMPLOYMENT CONSIDERATIONS
This position is part-time, averaging 10hours per week. Policies regarding sick leave, vacation time, and grievances are those stated in the Employee Handbook. Background check will be required.
