Director of Public Relations & Strategic Communications Summary The Public Relations Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting the Public Relations & Strategic Communications Team maintain a positive public image for the Tampa Housing Authority. This position assists with various tasks related to public relations, internal communications, and community events. Essential Job Functions 1.

Administrative Support:

Manages all administrative functions for the Public Relations and Strategic Communications Department, including preparing expense reports, processing incoming and outgoing correspondence, maintaining organized records, and maintaining contact databases. Serves as the primary administrative liaison, ensuring efficient operations and direct support to the Director. 2.

Public Records:

Acts as agency’s Records Management Liaison Officer. 3.

Event Execution:

Manages the planning, coordination, and execution of all public relations events for the agency, including special ceremonies, press conferences, trade shows, and community outreach initiatives. Oversees logistics, vendor coordination, and on-site execution to ensure events align with strategic communication goals and run seamlessly. 4.

Meeting Coordination:

Leads the coordination of departmental and cross-functional meetings, including scheduling, agenda preparation, and documentation. Oversees meeting logistics and ensures accurate and timely composition and distribution of meeting minutes. 5.

Purchasing:

Manages all purchasing activities for the Public Relations and Strategic Communications Department, including ordering office supplies, equipment, and coordinating services with external vendors and contractors. Responsible for initiating and tracking purchase orders, ensuring compliance with procurement policies and budgetary guidelines. 6.

Collateral Production:

Leads the production of Board packets and various communications collaterals. 7.

Media Relations Support:

Supports media relations by helping respond to inquiries in a timely manner and helps maintain the agency’s media contact list. Assists in tracking media coverage as needed. 8.

Content Creation Support:

Supports the creation of content by assisting with photography, videography, copywriting, and editing as needed. 9.

Research and Reporting Support:

Assists with gathering and analyzing information on Department KPs, industry trends, target audiences, and special initiatives. Supports the development of recurring reports by compiling data that reflects the impact of departmental activities. 10.

Department Support:

Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 1. Ability to provide information in a courteous diplomatic manner 2. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain professional relationships 3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills 4. Strong organizational and multitasking abilities 5. Ability to take and edit photos and videos 6. High attention to detail and accuracy 7. Familiarity with media monitoring tools and social media platforms 8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software 9. Knowledge of public relations principles and practices 10. Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines 11. Adaptability and flexibility in a fast-paced environment Minimum Qualifications Requires an associate’s degree or higher in a related field: Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Advertising, Digital Content, or English. Requires two (2) years of experience in a related role. Ability to speak and translate Spanish preferred.
