Communications Service Coordinator (Dispatcher) City of St. Petersburg – 3.8 Saint Petersburg, FL Job Details Full-time $19.39 – $29.45 an hour 5 hours ago Qualifications iRecruitment Mid-level High school diploma or GED Dispatching Computer skills Public utility Communication skills Full Job Description This is responsible Water Resources Dispatcher work, receiving requests for service regarding water utilities related activities, including emergency and non-emergency work, and dispatching information to the proper personnel for performing the required service. Work requires knowledge of public utility systems and operations; the ability to apply standard communication procedures and operating methods under normal and emergency situations; consistent public contact with the ability to exercise considerable patience, good judgment and initiative; completion of various forms, logs and electronic tracking related to daily operations; observance of policies and procedures; and the ability to successfully and efficiently work with considerable independence. Employees in this class work a varied schedule to provide 24/7 coverage to the Dispatch office and due to the critical responsibilities of this classification, an employee in this position must also be able to report to work outside of normally scheduled work hours to address urgent needs, at the discretion of management.

$19.39 – $29.45

Applicants must:
Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency. Have skill in the operation of a computer. Be able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Be able to communicate clearly, concisely and competently, both orally and in writing. Be comfortable working alone and/or as a member of a team. Be able to perform shift work. Be able to report to work during urgent staffing situations. Be able to exercise good judgement in making decisions in accordance with applicable rules, policies and procedures. Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, you must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster. Desirable Qualifications.
Preferred applicants:
Have knowledge of utility systems. Have some experience in radio dispatching and/or communications, including public contact work. Have considerable knowledge of the geographic layout and boundaries of the City. Have considerable knowledge of the efficient operation of radio receiving and transmitting equipment. Are able to competently coordinate assignments of service crews. Are able to make calm, decisive action during emergencies. Are skilled in troubleshooting and resolving problems.
