Executive Director, Human Resources Position Summary:
The Communications and Engagement Specialist promotes positive communication among employees, the media, the community, and the Board of Education on issues impacting the Glynn County School District. This role provides district-level leadership in public relations, media relations, and event planning, with a focus on identifying, capturing, and sharing the compelling stories of Glynn County Schools. The position is responsible for preparing and disseminating information that reflects the district’s mission, goals, policies, and activities. Additionally, the Communications and Engagement Specialist designs, coordinates, and maintains all aspects of the district’s websites, social media presence, graphics, and other communication platforms. In collaboration with school and district leadership, the role supports and advances the mission, vision, and strategic goals of Glynn County Schools.
Minimum Qualifications Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, Education, or a related field
Certification/Licensure:
Accreditation in Public Relations, preferred
Experience:
- Marketing/advertising, publications management, website management, and digital communication
- Website and social media content management, web analytics, best practices, and ADA Compliance requirements
- Video production and editing experience, preferred
Physical Activity:
- Routine physical activity associated with a school environment

- Communicate effectively and promote good public relations with students, parents, coworkers, and community stakeholders
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Ability to take complex ideas and market them to a diverse audience
- Ability to speak effectively before groups. Supervisory, communication, and human relations skills.
- Awareness of community resources The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
Comprehensive, strategically planned communications a. Develop and execute a comprehensive district-wide communication plan that aligns with and supports the district’s strategic plan. b. The communications plan incorporates the use of the brand identity across all relevant strategies and tactics, ensuring consistent messaging. c. Works in cooperation with district leadership in the planning, preparing, formatting, publishing, and dissemination of district reports and other communications (e.g., district newsletters, annual reports, website, networking, mailings). d. Develop and distribute materials and media releases pertaining to school information and programs. e. Promotes the system’s strengths and achievements. Vigorously publicizing student and staff achievement. f. Systematic evaluation of communications relative to goals and objectives 2. Internal communications a. Develop and/or revise a toolkit with guidelines for internal communication to ensure consistency throughout the district. b. Provide public relations training to staff in areas such as social media, websites, and overall best practices in proactive communication strategies and tools. c. Serve as public relations counsel to the Board of Education, Superintendent, program administrators, principals, and School Governance Teams. d. Lead district projects and initiatives, such as Partners In Education, Teacher of the Year Banquet, Retirement Banquet, and Teacher Advisory Committee. 3. Stakeholder communications a. Comprehensive, ongoing, authentic communication to foster involvement and engagement; includes social media outlets, webpage b. Target outreach to actively engage with diverse populations throughout our community. c. Develop linkages and strong cooperative relationships with the cities, area agencies, businesses, the chamber of commerce, community members, and other units of government. d. Assume total responsibility for and ensure the district’s website provides a consistent, branded user experience with current, accurate, and engaging content. i. Maintain the school system’s websites and perform updates in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) ii. Ensure functionality and efficiency of all websites iii. Implement, manage, and monitor Google Analytics for all websites to make changes as needed and provide monthly reports iv. Direct or respond to “contact us emails” and assist with Open Records Requests v. Manage and create online forms e. Manage district social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube) and lead consideration of other platforms. i. Develop content strategy and timely campaigns to support district initiatives, including design, messaging, posting/scheduling, and metrics to track campaign success. ii. Manage all BCSS district social media accounts, including posting new content regularly, cultivating community conversations and engagement, and responding to comments. iii. Monitor school social media accounts for stories to share and advise on any concerns that may arise. iv. Management of advertising on social media platforms as needed (budget, schedule, results) 4. Marketing and Branding a. Coordinate and evaluate the effectiveness of all major District communications media, including web, video, print, and events, to assure consistency with Glynn County Schools’ mission and brand. b. Design and produce district print and digital publications, including informational brochures, newsletters, the district blog, electronic newsletters, and promotional videos. c. Present at workshops and meetings as needed. 5. Support the Superintendent or designee with Crisis Communications. Security 6. Other Responsibilities a. Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance and the ability to adapt to an extended/flexible work schedule. b. Follow work scheduling and attendance requirements in a regular, predictable, and punctual manner. c. Participate in professional development/training classes and conferences designed to enhance knowledge, as determined by supervisor. d. Review current development, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibility. e. Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies and administrative directives. f. Ensures adherence to good safety procedures. g. Perform other duties, as assigned.
