Job Description
Communications Associate
The communications associate reports directly to the assistant head of school for external affairs. This position supports the communications team in working with internal campus clients to help carry out all components of the school’s communication program in order to present a positive and consistent image of Wesleyan School to members of the school community and the general public. The communications associate will support a wide range of projects, will interface with many stakeholders across campus, and must have excellent organizational and people skills. This is a 12-month position.

Responsibilities:

Oversee the creation, proofing, and distribution of the Wesleyan Weekly, Wesleyan’s weekly parent email newsletter that features recent announcements and news stories.
Manage email distribution lists for Wesleyan Weekly and other email communications as needed.
Support the communications office and other administrators with proofreading emails, publications, advertisements, and digital ads and posts.
Fulfill content needs on time following the project schedule or content calendar.
Provide additional content support for proactively identifying news stories on campus.
Serve as a member of the editorial team for the bi-annual Wesleyan
At the direction of the communications team, gather necessary assets for campaigns, including photos and videos for social media; assets for news stories; information for media releases; content for parent resources and other informational communications.
Coordinate with the communications team to schedule video shoots with freelance videographer and stakeholders on campus; schedule participants; serve as primary logistical point of contact on filming projects, including day-of filming which could occur outside the normal workday/week.
At the direction of the communications team, identify potential media pitches, write releases, and distribute to targeted media outlets.
Maintain an accurate and up-to-date media distribution list.
Manage the process of receiving, reviewing, and approving advertising invoices.
Support the communications team in the planning and execution of the new parent communications plan.
Actively build ongoing, up-to-date, and relevant expertise in general communications trends and best practices for the education industry.
Support the communications team by providing social, web, or other coverage of school events when needed. These could be outside of normal school hours.
Attend special events and school functions, often outside of school hours, as requested.
Actively participate in the life of the school both during the school day and outside of normal school hours.

Qualifications:

Strong written, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
Strong grounding in the Christian faith.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a proactive team player.
Capable of initiating and contributing fresh, innovative ideas.
Maintains a positive attitude that inspires colleagues and fosters a supportive work environment.
Excellent editing skills with strong attention to detail.
Familiarity with social media platforms, web-based marketing, and digital photography (preferred).
Bachelor’s degree required.
