Job Summary
The Communications Specialist will manage all internal and externalmunications efforts for the School of Computer and Cyber Sciences (SCCS).
Responsibilities
The duties include but are not limited to
INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS SUPPORT
Serve as the leadmunications advisor to SCCS. Leads strategicmunications planning. Oversee the production ofmunication and other written materials, including video scripts, remarks, letters, electronicmunication and more. Participate in school outreach efforts to ensure alignment with institutionalmunications and marketing. Plan,anize, and direct the dailymunications support functions for the school. Work with senior leadership to develop internal employee engagement plans and platforms. Provide support at events and special presentations. Providemunications support for events. Provide web content development and support. Manage SCCS social media platforms. Serve as the point of contact for school swag design and ordering.
PRIMARY LIAISON BETWEEN SCCS, COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING
Partner with Communications and Marketing to develop and implement strategicmunication plans for SCCS. Serve as a point of contact for projects and initiatives that needmunications support. Work with marketing to ensure consistency with branding protocols andanizational strategic plans. Collaborate to aplishmunication goals by exerting exceptional interpersonal skills, creative problemsolving skills and high levels of influence. Initiate activities that support internal and externalmunication. Supports employee, student, andmunity engagement through managing an active and highqualitymunication for SCCS programs. Execute media relations efforts in coordination with DCM
CONTENT
DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT
Serve as the primary point of contact to draft and edit information to be delivered through the variousmunications outlets. Schedule, coordinate, and implementmunication and promotional meetings. Identify and write internal stories and news items as they pertain to the units and coordinate wider distribution with DCM (e.g. expert pitches, media release, etc.). Maintain media archives. Create, coordinate, and select photography for and electronicmunications. Develop content to be included in standard materials delivered to stakeholder audiences. Initiate updates to existing content delivered in the various outlets. Serve as a first point of contact for reviewingediting content initiated by DCM for any form of media. Create vision and manage digitalmunication including web content and execution. Create content for newsletters (internal & external). Utilize templates provided andor endorsed by DCM to create electronic newsletters for internal andor external audiences by aggregating content from a variety of sources. Utilize tools provided andor endorsed by DCM to electronically distribute newsletters (mail chimp, listservs, etc.). Provide internal emunications support
OUTREACH COORDINATION AND SUPPORT
Coordinate outreach efforts for SCCS to include (but not limited to) GenCyber, Girls Who CodeCodehoppers, and high school outreach. Coordinate internal outreach efforts to include living learningmunity, school clubs, etc. Responsible formunication regarding outreach activities.
OTHER Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in marketing,munications, public relations, or related field and a minimum of three years of experience in a professional role inmunications, marketing, or public relations.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of graphic design techniques and software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite). Working knowledge of FERPA andor higher education policy preferred. Experience marketing graduate and undergraduate programs.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
Proficient in Microsoft Office and otherputer softwaredatabases.
Must possess working knowledge of the fundamentals of marketing practices.
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbalmunication skill.
Detailoriented with strong prioritization andanizational skills.
ABILITIES
Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines despite often interruptions, maintain confidentiality, keep accurate records and make independent decisions.
