Position Summary:

Position 1 The Library Communications Specialist I will learn and understand all aspects of the library; develops and implements campaigns, creates collateral and collaborates to market Charlotte Mecklenburg Library’s collections, programs and resources; develops, shares, and manages digital content for all Library social media platforms and portions of cmlibrary.org; and writes, develops, and designs Library communications as needed. Position 2 The Library Communications Specialist I focuses on internal and external communications for Charlotte Mecklenburg Library. This person is responsible for learning and understanding all aspects of the library; leading and executing internal communications strategies, including developing and managing content for the company’s intranet; handling public relations for the library, including writing press releases, building media relationships, and monitoring media coverage; and writing, developing, and designing Library communications as needed.

Essential Functions:

Position 1 Promote systemwide programs, manage all promotional materials, and promote other innovative Library programs and events. Manage communications about programs and services to engage and re-engage customers, generates content. Assist with updates to systemwide communication tools, help execute Marketing, Communications, & Digital Experiences program of work, including tracking progress and reporting goals. Increase community awareness of Charlotte Mecklenburg Library and its programs and activities impacting locations with a focus on the new Main Library, services and programs. Oversee organization’s collective social media presence; develop social media-only campaigns when other external marketing is not advised/required. Develop, maintain, and update content on external website: cmlibrary.org. Work with team to provide digital components of all marketing campaigns. Attend events on some evenings and weekends. Participate in local, state, and national professional organizations. Other job duties as assigned Position 2 Establish/Distribute organizational messages about Library initiatives, projects, events, etc. Develop/Refine internal communications strategy, then execute. Oversee internal communications tools/channels including use/design standards, training, and content review. Assist with internal educational/morale events. Develop internal responses/communications surrounding crisis events. Handle media inquiries and public records requests. Develop media pitches and responses; give on-camera interviews when CMO, CEO, or subject matter expert not available or needed. Develop, maintain, and update content on Forewordnet (Library’s intranet). Work with team to provide PR components of marketing campaigns. Attend events on some evenings and weekends. Participate in local, state, and national professional organizations. Other job duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum of three years of related experience in marketing, communications, or related field.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, or related field. Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted?
