This role is essential in helping us share our story, engage key audiences, and promote evidence-based professional development for educators across the state. Position Overview This position leads and supports a wide range of internal and external communication efforts—from content development and digital engagement to media relations and brand management. Qualified candidates must document on the application that they possess all of the following: Demonstrated Experience in Public Relations Serve as spokesperson when needed and prepare talking points for senior leadership.
Respond to media and stakeholder inquiries with clarity and professionalism.
Manage timely communications related to weather, safety, or urgent updates. Demonstrated Experience in Content Development Write, edit, and finalize newsletters, press releases, website content, and board/fundraising reports.
Create and maintain an editorial calendar for organizational messaging.
Ensure written materials are clear, consistent, and aligned with NCCAT branding. Demonstrated Experience in Cross-Departmental Project Leadership Lead communications initiatives like the annual report, event materials, and promotional campaigns.
Coordinate production timelines to meet organizational needs.
Supervise communication staff, interns, or contractors as needed to execute projects effectively. Demonstrated Experience in Digital Engagement & Platform Management Manage NCCAT’s social media presence, email marketing, and website content.
Leverage tools like Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Meta Business Suite, and Google Analytics.
Maintain accessible and up-to-date website content in collaboration with program staff. Demonstrated Experience in Brand Stewardship & Policy Awareness Uphold brand standards and guide staff on consistent messaging.
Monitor external factors to inform communication strategies. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Some state job postings say you can qualify by an “equivalent combination of education and experience”. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, public affairs, media, journalism, English, or related field from an appropriately accredited institution
four years of experience in communications, public relations, or publicity work;
or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Valid NC Driver’s License. Out of State Applicants must have a valid Driver’s License or acquire within 60 days of hire. Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with the North Carolina public education system.
Experience with a range of communication platforms and media formats.
Knowledge of Associated Press (AP) or other major style guides. Supplemental and Contact Information
