Communication Specialist – Apex, NC Shook Construction Co 3471 Apex Peakway, Apex, NC 27502 Job Purpose The Communications Specialist will be responsible for developing content to support the company’s strategic communications initiatives, including brand awareness and positioning across multiple external channels. The ability to connect and work with a large and diverse group of people will be essential. This role requires a strategic thinker, content developer, and creative self-starter. The ideal candidate is highly organized, extremely detail-oriented, and passionate about his/her work. Objective Key Results:
Content Creation & Strategic Communication – Work with the Director of Corporate Communications to develop and inform the external content strategy and editorial calendar. Update content on the Shook Construction website, including writing case studies for various projects and thought leadership articles for the Insights page. Collaboration & Cross-Functional Teamwork – Work with a cross-section of internal and external teammates as a content developer for all external communications platforms such as websites, social media, press releases, newsletters, and award submittals. This will include but not be limited to impactful, detailed stories about our people, projects, and community engagement efforts. Technical & Creative Proficiency – This role requires significant writing; superior experience in storytelling, copyediting, and content development is needed. Work with communications and marketing teammates to include supplemental photography, graphics, or videography in storytelling content. Personal photography, graphic design, or video production skills are an added benefit. Superior skill level experience using MS Office, various graphics, and presentation programs, including, but not limited to, Adobe Creative Suite and Canva. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The individual in this position is expected to be able to successfully perform the following duties and responsibilities according to Shook’s Policies and Procedures and established business practices. Content Creation & Strategic Communication Work with a cross-section of internal and external teammates as a content developer for all external communications platforms such as websites, social media, press releases, newsletters, and award submittals. This will include but not be limited to impactful, detailed stories about our people, projects, and community engagement efforts. Work with the Director of Corporate Communication to develop & inform the external content strategy and editorial calendar. Coordinate projects within the editorial calendar in Monday.com. Post on the company’s social media accounts, including collecting content, drafting copy in Hootsuite, and making graphics in Canva. A strong understanding of graphic design is desired. Contribute to analytics regularly to inform future content strategy. Contribute to the content development for company and project award submittals. Assist with public/media relations, writing various articles and providing content to local media. Assist with developing and updating corporate content (company and market overviews, project writeups, mission overviews, etc.). Optimize content for search engines (SEO) to increase visibility and reach. Collaboration & Cross-Functional Teamwork Update content on the Shook Construction website, including writing case studies for various projects and thought leadership articles for the Insights page. Work with internal subject matter experts to inform the content. Help develop an external newsletter to be distributed quarterly. Contribute to analytics on the website regularly and use to inform future content creation. Visit job sites to take progress photos of active jobs and set regular meetings with key project teams to tell the project story. Work with marketing teammates to include supplemental photography, graphics, or videography in storytelling content. Personal photography, graphic design, or video production skills are an added benefit but not a requirement. May be asked to contribute to events including conferences, tradeshows, and more. Be a proactive teammate by staying on top of emerging trends in our market and ecosystem and keeping a pulse on the competition in key usage areas. Have a willingness to roll up your sleeves and pitch-in wherever needed to best help the team and organization. Technical & Creative Proficiency Maintain a tone of voice consistent with Shook brand standards. Provide editing and proofreading support to business units. Superior skill level + experience in copyediting and storytelling, using MS Office 2010, various graphics, and presentation programs including, but not limited to, the Adobe Creative Suite and Canva. Basic understanding of SEO principles and how they apply to digital content creation. Experience with CRM platforms is a bonus. Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Motor Vehicle report required.
Physical Demands:
Occasionally, you must stand, walk, sit, reach with your hands and arms, and climb and balance. Must be able to talk, hear, taste, and smell and use hands to finger, handle, and feel. Seldom may have to stoop, crouch, or crawl. May need to occasionally lift up to 10 lbs.
