Job Summary:
Under the guidance of the Communications Director, the Public Relations Specialist will help to manage external communications and media-related functions, ensuring IAPP products, services and spokespeople are represented accurately and effectively in global traditional media and social media. The ideal candidate is strategic, organized, proactive, creative with exceptional interpersonal communication skills and writing skills. Prior experience in global media relations, reporter management, PR agencies, managing social media accounts, creating social media content and working with experts in various fields is preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee the execution of the IAPP communications plan, ensuring consistency in messaging across all external platforms and media outlets. With the Communications Director, help to develop media relations programs to promote IAPP’s products and offerings, optimizing engagement opportunities. Build and maintain strong relationships with global journalists, editors, and media outlets to ensure positive coverage of IAPP. Identify opportunities for SMEs to participate in industry events, conferences, and panel discussions. Serve as the primary liaison between SMEs and the media, arranging and coordinating interviews, press briefings, and public appearances. Monitor and track media coverage, providing regular reports to measure the effectiveness of communication efforts. Help with creation of social media content -including graphic design work and video content. Assist in content brainstorms for social and print media. Develop press releases, advisories, pitches, and talking points as needed. Collaborate effectively with multiple teams within IAPP. Additional Duties Additional duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Education and/or Experience Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English or a related field; plus 2-5 years of experience in public relations role Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to relate to global audiences with multiple dimensions of diversity, and work collaboratively Experience implementing communications strategies as well as using data to drive content strategies Proficient in all MS office applications Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, with a keen attention to detail Past experience with InDesign or other graphic and layout software.
