The selected candidate’s compensation package for this position will be provided during the interview process. Your Role as a Communications Specialist Communications Specialist is a critical role in the University Communications team as a content creator, specifically working on communication to key stakeholders, alumni, and donors, as well as communication coming from the Office of the President. The incumbent will play a key role in the development, management, and execution of internal and external communication initiatives. This position reports to the Director of Public Relations.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in developing and implementing a comprehensive communications strategy to enhance Canisius University’s brand reputation and visibility for identified stakeholders. Collaborate with the campus community (such as academic departments, enrollment management, alumni engagement an advancement teams) to identify, develop and write compelling stories, features, and profiles that align with the university’s brand and strategic priorities. Oversee the production and distribution of internal and external newsletters to inform the campus community about campus news, events, and initiatives. Create content that helps tell the Canisius story and emphasizes our brand identity and value proposition. Support all University Communications initiatives and projects, including but not limited to the needs of senior leadership, enrollment management, and alumni and donor relations. Oversee the production and distribution of the Canisius alumni magazine. Assist the admissions team with all major events and other requests, as needed. What You Need to

Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communication or related field. Consumer-oriented writing experience, including experience writing for digital advertising. Higher-education experience is a plus. Excellent knowledge of the English language and the ability to write clear and accurate marketing copy in a consistent brand voice. Knowledgeable in website writing and SEO best practices. Ability to accept constructive comments regarding concepts and copy. Must be detail oriented. Professional demeanor is required to effectively communicate with senior administration, internal staff, and students. The ability to work within time constraints and manage multiple concurrent projects. Ability to articulate the college’s mission and identity in an inviting and engaging manner. Experience with Trello or other project management software a plus.
