SUMMARY We are seeking a Communications Coordinator to serve as the main press liaison for our NBA G League Affiliate, the Long Island Nets, and provide additional in-season basketball Public Relations support for the WNBA New York Liberty. The ideal candidate is a well-rounded, enthusiastic, creative Communications professional with an understanding of the media landscape, ability to bring big ideas to the table, and demonstrates strong interpersonal skills. You will be responsible for pitching and placing stories, writing press releases, and curating and strengthening relationships with media in order to increase exposure for the teams in the consumer and corporate worlds. The Coordinator will work primarily in Uniondale, NY at NYCB Live (Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum) during the G League season and work occasional hours at our Brooklyn headquarters during the WNBA season. They will also be responsible for serving as the primary media contact onsite for a variety of events; this position requires to work hours on nights, holidays and weekends as needed. The Communications Coordinator will report to the Senior Director of Communications.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Pitch and place stories related to the Long Island Nets, including basketball, business, marketing, community, merchandising, special events, and entertainment initiatives Establish and strengthen relationships with Long Island media, and identify new opportunities for coverage both on and off-the-court Vet incoming media inquiries / interview requests and coordinate interviews with LI Nets front office, executives, coaching staff, players, and entertainment teams Write press releases and securing coverage for LI Nets from both a business standpoint (i.e. sponsorship announcements, community events) and team standpoint (i.e. player trades/transactions, new hires, Player of the Week announcements from the league, etc.) Work in coordination with the Director of Internal Communications to submit the LI Nets franchise for various industry awards Identify thought leadership and executive speaking opportunities for the Team President to further enhance the LI Nets brand in the community/industry Write and distribute game recaps for all LI Nets home games Create game notes for every LI Nets and NY Liberty game throughout the season; designing the game notes template to use throughout the season Serve as the creator and editor of the LI Nets media guide; update media guide to reflect the team’s statistical archives (including team and individual franchise records for both the full season and individual games) Create all written content, including bios for all players, coaches and front office personnel; work with Creative team to design layout and with Marketing to fulfill graphics needs Plan, host, and staff LI Nets media day, including securing media attendance, coordinating on-site media interviews, and completing photo shoots with players for media guide Maintain storylines for LI Nets across all documents including fact sheets, media outreach tracking documents, and media lists Monitor for media coverage around the LI Nets and compiling media recaps following any major announcement Consistently edit and enrich the LI Nets media list, identifying new targets to engage Maintain statistical reports and records regarding the current season and team and player history Manage media credentials process for LI Nets home games Provide statistical and research support for Basketball Operations staff as needed Coordinate requests from team broadcasters Oversee Player of the Week, Player of the Month and Coach of the Month submissions and press releases for both the LI Nets and NY Liberty that highlight on-the-court achievements Archive photos of the team, players and coaching staff Manage hiring, scheduling and oversight of the LI Nets stat crew (official scorer, clock/scoreboard operators, callers and inputters) and NY Liberty Game Night PR staff for all respective home games Coordinate with finance the payment of invoices and tracking of budgets The above noted job description is not intended to describe, in detail, the multitude of tasks that may be assigned but rather to give the associate a general sense of the responsibilities and expectations of their position. WHAT YOU WILL BRING
Bachelor’s degree preferred 2 years experience in similar role, including internships Prior experience in sports and entertainment communications or at a PR agency a strong plus; possess knowledge of key players in the sports and entertainment industry and how industry news directly or indirectly affects the business Knowledge of Long Island, sports, business and national media Strong writing skills and AP style proficiency The ability to lift up to 10 pounds

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The incumbent primarily works in an office environment and will be expected to work all Long Island Nets home games at NYCB Live and occasional NY Liberty games at Barclays Center. Attendance will also be needed at all Long Island Nets events involving media presence. Games and events take place during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Travel Requirements:
Infrequent Traveler (10 -20% travel): The incumbent may be required to travel within the New York City area. Trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay away from home for one or more nights.
