DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?

Join our dynamic team at AM/NS Calvert where your expertise will contribute to the manufacture of high-quality flat rolled steel. You’ll play a key role in promoting a culture that prioritizes Safety, Quality, and Production that meets and exceeds our customers’ expectations. This Quality Specialist position will report directly to our Team Manager of Quality control at our Cold Rolling Mill, and support operations to achieve Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s). Candidates must be strong communicators that are responsive to production demands in a fast paced, high volume steel manufacturing environment.

The Basics:

High school diploma with post-secondary education. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of flat rolled steelmaking, applications, & customer specifications. Ability to accurately evaluate, document, and classify steel manufacturing defects. Knowledge of Quality Management Systems and processes. Computer savvy with the desire and ability to learn new programs. Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Excel, Teams, Word, PowerPoint). Basic knowledge of measuring devices (Caliper, Micrometer, Tape Measure).

The Extras:

Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Quality related role. Inspection experience with working knowledge of steelmaking defects. Preferred experience with Hot Rolled, Hot Roll Pickled, & Cold Rolled Full Hard products. 8D Problem solving methodology experience preferred. Working knowledge of Quality systems, TOMIS, Nimbus, SAP, MES, Mevinet, IBA, Parsytec. Working knowledge of latest industry standards including

OSHA, IATF, ASTM, & ISO.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

Support Operations to achieve department KPI’s (Safety, Quality, and Production). 50% Daily review and disposition of production holds and non-conforming material. Attend daily operations meeting to summarize disposition activity. Report unsatisfactory operating conditions causing production of defective material and performing timely containment activities. Routinely evaluate and summarize the department change management log. Interact daily with shift managers & inspectors to provide support and coaching. Provide routine training and assessments of Quality Inspectors. (20% of role) Investigate product traceability events and update production systems as needed. Routine review and optimization of work instructions that have potential to impact quality. Routine surface defect sample prep, evaluation, and coordinating lab analysis activities. Investigate customer claims (both internal & external) and effectively communicate findings. Lead and/or participate in corrective action activities. Routinely evaluate and summarize effectiveness of department internal corrective actions. Distribute routine Quality communications to Operations. Perform internal audits & provide support during external audits. Routine review of inspection systems and production cameras to investigate events impacting product quality. Initiate improvements in defect detection and classification for inspection systems. Participate in routine PFMEA/Control Plan reviews, and support document updates. Support Quality related improvement projects, training, and quality studies. Join the department on call schedule, to provide after-hours QC support.
