The City is a prominent part of the Tampa Bay metropolitan area located on Florida’s west coast, is the fifth largest city in Florida and the 85th largest city in the United States with a population of 258,000 and a land mass of 61 square miles. The City is governed by a strong mayor/city council form of government, and the Marketing Director is appointed by and serves at the discretion of the elected Mayor. Work involves planning, developing, and implementing a wide variety of municipal government marketing and promotional activities; guiding and overseeing the work of an internal, agency style marketing department including creative marketing professionals and marketing campaigns; and supervising the production and personnel in the City’s TV production and print shop divisions. This position involves considerable initiative and judgment to formulate recommendations and requires discretion, dedication, and tact to effectively communicate, coordinate, and build cooperative relationships with city employees, city departments, citizens, outside organizations, business groups, elected officials, City Administration, and City Council.

Applicants must:

Have a valid Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in marketing, public administration, advertising, business administration, or a related field. Have considerable progressive experience in marketing, communications, public relations, social media campaigns, and/or branding. Have considerable progressive supervisory or managerial experience in a related field. Be able to plan, coordinate, and supervise creative marketing employees in the development of marketing and promotional materials and City related branding campaigns. Be able to prepare clear and concise presentations, communications, speeches, and scripts. Be able to facilitate and maintain positive relationships with local media, community leaders, elected officials, citizens, City Administration, and business owners. Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, an applicant must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster. Desirable Qualifications.

Preferred Applicants:

Have a Master’s degree in marketing, public administration, advertising, business administration or a related field. Have knowledge and understanding of Television Production, Graphic Design, and Print Shop operations. Have prior experience in Marketing with a local government. Selection Process
