Retirement Plan Summary:
The Director of Development and Marketing will lead and oversee all aspects of development and communications efforts. This will include, but not be limited to fundraising, public & community relations, marketing, and social media for Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster. Using a broad spectrum of communication and outreach techniques, the Director of Development and Communications will help to formulate a comprehensive development and marketing strategy, build a diverse donor base, create diverse and sustainable giving opportunities, and positively enhance the agency’s profile in the community in order to build public recognition, support, and increase program utilization for the agency’s programs in Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster Counties. The Director of Development & Marketing is a member of the agency’s leadership team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Mission/General 1. Identify, cultivate, and recruit board members, specifically with a focus on membership on the Development & Marketing Committee. 2. Participate in and attend community events to establish strategic relationships and build opportunities for potential funding and partnerships. 3. Work closely with CEO, Board, and Finance staff in the development of department budget and annual financial goals. 4. Staff the Development & Marketing Committee by engaging with CEO & Committee Chair on agenda, goals, etc. 5. Manage the work of department staff and volunteers. 6. Demonstrate a commitment to the mission of CCOSU. Development/Fundraising 7. Coach agency leaders (CEO, Directors and Board members) on how to effectively fundraise, helping them to identify potential donors, expand boards, cultivate potential donors, and steward of ongoing donors. 8. Oversee development and execution of strategic annual fundraising plan in concert with the CEO and Board of Directors. 9. Secure financial support from individuals, foundations and corporations. 10. Explore and test opportunities to diversify and expand funding streams, with a focus on long-term sustainability. 11. Monitor, analyze, and report on event and fundraising results. Modify plans as necessary to meet target goals. 12. Establish, develop and maintain relationships with new and existing donors, with an expanded focus on higher-end or long-term giving opportunities. 13. Oversee gift acknowledgement, tracking, stewardship, and cultivation process for all donors. 14. Oversee organization of special events, including, but not limited to, annual dinner, golf outing, and house tour, as directed by the Development & Marketing Committee of the Board. 15. Participate in the development of proposals and reports for all corporate fundraising and some private foundations. 16. Oversee use of donor database management program and mailing list maintenance. Marketing/Communication 17. Oversee creation and execution of strategic plans for communications. 18. Increase visibility and utilization of all agency programs. 19. Oversee all aspects of communications strategy and brand management, including website, social media accounts, and collateral materials. 20. Serve as spokesperson and first line of response to media inquiries. 21. Other tasks assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.
Working conditions and physical demands:
The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to work with the demand of multiple deadlines/situations. Use a workstation and/or a computer in a fixed location at least 70% of the time. Hybrid work schedule available but travel required to events and offices throughout three-county region up to 30% of the time.
Qualifications:
Education and/or experience: BA/BS (required), MA (a plus) 5-10 years experience in development, public relations, marketing, and communications Skills, Licenses, and/or competencies: Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Proficient computer skills, including MS Office Suite, Constant Contact, donor management software, website platform, and social media. Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks. Must be able to work independently, lead by example, and take ownership of departmental goals.
