Exempt Primary Function The Director of Marketing & Events is responsible for increasing visibility, awareness, and support for Boys & Girls Clubs of the Lowcountry through strategic marketing, public relations, and signature event execution. This role elevates the organization’s brand and storytelling, fosters community engagement, and leads the design and implementation of special events to raise funds and promote the mission. This individual is a key member of the Executive Leadership Team and serves as the staff partner to the board-level Marketing Committee. Key Responsibilities Executive Leadership & Board Engagement Serve as a core member of the Executive Leadership Team, contributing to organizational strategy and decision-making Act as the staff liaison to the board-level Marketing Committee, coordinating meetings, preparing materials, and guiding committee work in alignment with organizational priorities Provide regular updates and strategic recommendations to the CEO, board members, and leadership team regarding marketing and event initiatives Marketing & Public Relations Leadership Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy aligned with the organization’s mission and goals Create and manage messaging to promote Club services, programs, and events across all internal and external platforms Maintain consistent brand identity and visual standards across all materials and communication channels Serve as the primary media contact and maintain strong relationships with press and media outlets Write, edit, and distribute press releases, newsletters, social media content, flyers, and other promotional pieces Events Management Lead planning, promotion, and execution of signature fundraising and engagement events, including logistics, branding, timelines, and vendor coordination Partner with resource development staff and volunteers to drive event participation, sponsorships, and revenue Create memorable event experiences that build brand loyalty and community engagement Conduct post-event reporting and implement improvements for future events Strategic Planning Participate in organizational strategic planning efforts, ensuring marketing and events align with overall goals Analyze campaign and event performance, track KPIs, and adjust strategies based on data and outcomes Research and apply marketing trends to improve impact and efficiency Partnership & Community Engagement Build and maintain relationships with local businesses, media, community partners, volunteers, and donors Leverage partnerships to amplify marketing and event efforts Collaborate cross-functionally with staff across departments to ensure brand consistency and aligned messaging Budget & Resource Management Develop and manage the annual marketing and events budget Oversee vendors, consultants, and contractors to ensure cost-effective, high-quality outputs Secure in-kind sponsorships to support event success and reduce costs In addition to strategy and leadership responsibilities, this role will also: Personally execute day-to-day marketing tasks including social media management, email marketing, press releases, basic graphic design, and content creation Serve as a “doer” as well as a strategist—this is a one-person marketing team Coordinate and engage volunteers to support marketing and event needs (e.g., photographers, social media ambassadors, event helpers) Operate with minimal contractor support due to limited marketing budget Manage multiple competing priorities and deadlines with a hands-on approach Be resourceful and creative in leveraging low-cost or no-cost marketing tools such as Canva, Classy, and social media platforms Skills & Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field Minimum 3 years of experience in marketing, communications, or event planning, preferably in a nonprofit environment Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills tailored to diverse audiences Proficiency with digital marketing, social media, website CMS, and email platforms Experience planning and executing public events with strong attention to detail Project management skills with ability to prioritize, delegate, and meet deadlines Collaborative, creative, and organized with a passion for youth development and community engagement Preferred software experience includes Classy, Salesforce, and Canva Work Environment & Physical Requirements Office environment with frequent local travel to Club sites and event venues Occasional evening and weekend work required for events and promotional activities Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and stand for extended periods during events Disclaimer This job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed.
