Marketing Lead Black Earth Compost Manchester, MA 01944

Black Earth Compost collects food scraps from homes, schools, and businesses and turns it into compost for gardeners, landscapers, and farmers. Through sustainable management of organic waste, we are building a local nutrient system that will support climate health, soil health, food health, and in turn human health. We are hiring someone to learn what we have done, how to improve it and discover new ways to market our collection services and compost sales. The successful candidate will setup a framework to structure their approach of discovery, attempting methods/messaging, iterating and finally, packaging an effective approach that we roll out to the 140 communities that we currently service. As we step into a future equipped with artificial intelligence, we want to hire someone who ideally has experience, or alternatively has the interest in exploring, using different AI platforms to create efficient marketing campaigns. Through using and exploring these AI platforms, the Marketing Lead will use this tool for executing marketing campaigns, driving brand awareness, and supporting the overall marketing, brand and advertising strategy for customer acquisition, employee recruitment and retention. The ideal candidate will possess an enthusiasm for composting & sustainability, a creative and analytical mindset, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

Specific responsibilities include:

Day to Day Work

  • Develop and create marketing campaigns across various channels, including digital, print, and social media for primarily customer acquisition and secondarily employee recruitment.
  • Create engaging and relevant content for marketing materials, including flyers, social media updates, email newsletters, and website content.
  • Create and manage email marketing campaigns, including list segmentation, content, and performance analysis.
  • Coordinate and manage online and offline advertising efforts, including pay-per-click (PPC) campaigns, social media ads, and traditional media placements.
  • Assist in managing the marketing budget and track expenses to ensure campaigns are effective and stay within budget. High Level Strategy
  • Work collaboratively with the compost sales, residential collection and commercial collection sales departments to execute campaigns, and track cost effectiveness.
  • Work collaboratively with our external town partners to grow residential participation.
  • Conduct market research to identify trends, customer needs, and competitive analysis.
  • Develop strategies to increase brand awareness; ensure all marketing materials and communications adhere to brand guidelines and maintain a consistent brand voice.
  • Find and trial a go to Ai marketing platform such as Blaze Marketing
  • Analyze campaign performance data to measure effectiveness and ROI and provide insights for optimization.
  • Gather and analyze customer feedback to inform marketing strategies and improve customer satisfaction. In addition to possessing experience with each area of responsibility listed above, the Marketing Lead will have the following skills:
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Comfortable working in non-corporate environment
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects at one time
  • Self motivated and comfortable with a minimal amount of direction and high expectations
  • Experience with Google Ads, Google Analytics, Squarespace, Adobe Program Suite, Canva, and modern tools like AI. Successful candidates applying for this position will also have the following:
  • 2-3 years of on-the-job experience
