Technical Designer, Covers (Product Development) Culp, Inc. Stokesdale, NC 27357

Position Summary:

As the Technical Designer for the Mattress Cover Business at Culp Home Fashions, you will support the Product Development team in managing end-to-end product development for the mattress cover category. This role requires attention to detail, accuracy, and a proactive approach to delivery within company standards and timelines. Your work will contribute to the creation of high-quality products that exceed customer expectations, reinforcing Culp’s position as a leader in the bedding textile industry.

Position Responsibilities:
Product Development Support:

Manage the full product development cycle from initial conception to final production, ensuring calendar milestone deliverables are met. Source and receive raw materials for samples from internal and external vendors. Digitize embroidery and operate embroidery machines or oversee the creation of embroidery with external vendor support.

Technical Expertise and Quality Control:

Maintain prototype filing/organizational tools with a high-level of accountability to accuracy. Catalog all approved components for prototypes. Build and maintain accurate tech packs and bill of materials, including measurements and construction details. Execute CAD functions, including pattern making, marker making, and plotting for covers to be produced in Haiti and the US. Calculate raw material usage for pricing. Assist in problem solving all technical issues related to fit and execution including fabric application, construction, grading and cost engineering.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Collaborate with team members and business partners to obtain clear direction and consensus on aesthetic, fit intent and construction. Support product commercialization, coordinating external and internal SKU setups for new items and changes with Accounting. Prepare samples for fitting with

Prototype Supervisor:

measure, review against tech pack, and photograph prototypes organizing based on customer/business priority. Attend fit meetings and assist with processing comments and next steps. Communicate with international divisions for sourcing and maintain sourcing logs. Partner with Prototype Supervisor to maintain a neat and orderly sampling area, setting readiness preparation standards for internal and external visits. Partner with prototyping, sales, design, quality, and production teams to ensure customer satisfaction and develop a well-rounded view of business needs and opportunities to improve processes.

Continuous Improvement:

Be curious: Work closely with department leaders and vendors to continually broaden technical knowledge and to elevate the quality of the product. Continuously seek ways to improve product development processes to increase efficiency and accuracy. Collaborate with account managers and departmental leadership to research and report on key customer color, construction, and general product trends.

Essential Skills and Attributes:

2 or more years of CAD pattern making software and Adobe experience. 1 or more years in product development, preferably in the bedding or furniture industry. Strong understanding of basic fabric properties, cover construction, and fit. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Effective communication and teamwork abilities. Ability to multitask and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Proactive and committed to achieving timelines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Adaptable and eager to learn new techniques and processes. Customer-focused with dedication to quality and accuracy. Fluency in Spanish is a bonus

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Textile Engineering, Fashion Design, Product Development, or a related field. Or 2+ years of industry experience

Travel Requirements:

5-10% US based travel, as needed, for trade shows and development opportunities.
