Job Description

Position Objective A hands-on Product Designer who’s equal parts visionary and get-it-done pro—a strategic thinker, hands on maker, and creative force all rolled into one. In this department-of-one role, you’ll lead the charge from big idea to final execution, driving concept development, prototyping, design, and ongoing refinement of products that elevate the live event experience. You’ll need the agility to juggle multiple ideas, the grit to pivot fast, and the imagination to turn the unexpected into unforgettable. Collaborate throughout ATOMIC and with vendors to develop and execute ideas for new products and revisions of existing products aligned with market requirements, quality and cost goals, and manufacturability. Present ideas and progress to stakeholders and internal collaborators. Rapidly prototype and iterate using hands-on tools and 3D softwareprinting. Maintain design documentation and manage our CAD software systems. Push boundaries through trend research, design sprints, and fail-fast testing. Lead with creativity—but stay rooted in functionality, safety, and excellence. Manage product development projects, exploring new product ideas through sketches, CAD modeling, and hands-on prototyping. Produce technical drawing packets and jigs for part production and system assembly and complete product inspections and quality checks. Identify solutions to improve production efficiency. Mentor other product designers and interns, providing opportunities for skill development and career progression. Support the onboarding of new team members. Document data and ideas that result from experimentation and concept generation following established procedures and processes in addition to maintaining existing design and engineering records. Conduct project progress reports and present results to internal and external stakeholders. Conduct applicable advanced research for future project possibilities, considering relevant trends and technology. Evaluate design solutions against industry standards and regulations. Maintain strong cross-functional relationships and communications. Contribute to the development of a safety culture by ensuring work complies with all applicable safety standards. Actively engage as an internal resource, sharing experience on materials, manufacturing processes, and design methodology. Collaborate with outside vendors to build strong partnerships resulting in cost savings, efficiency and quality product. Contribute to and help maintain active project and product idea databases within product development. Manage department CAD software package including: setting and maintaining standards and workflows, organizing updates, and training new department members. The dynamic nature of the live events industry requires flexibility to work overtime, including early mornings, evenings and weekends, as dictated by project schedules and client needs. Organizational Relationships The Senior Product Designer reports to the Chief Creative Officer and works closely with team members in all profit centers. Must-Have Traits Independent thinker with collaborative instincts. Comfortable with ambiguity and high-speed pivots. Confident communicator—on paper, in CAD, and in front of a whiteboard. Creative problem solver with technical skills. Resilient and focused on details, but not afraid to break the mold. Passionate about big ideas. Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Track record of success applying a wide set of design thinking and methodologies such as: research, ideation, collaboration, UI and UX considerations. Experience using a diverse set of materials and manufacturing processes. Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor and Vault PDM, or similar parametric modeling software. Project management skills. Proficiency in 3D printing hardware/software. Advanced problem-solving skills. Comfortable making quick models and prototypes; hands-on fabrication capabilities. Abilities in multiple specialties, e.g., electronics (power distribution and panel development, including circuit protection), integration of video products, mechanical engineering, etc. Desired Credentials and Experience Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Engineering, Technical, Design) and 7 years of experience, or a master’s degree with 4+ years’ experience, or 10+ years’ relevant work experience. Product Development experience of at least 5 years with a history of creative and cost-effective products and solutions. Experience in interactive/live event product development industry a plus. Maintain a valid passport. Physical Requirements Those necessary for general office work and the ability to work with power tools, hand tools, electronics, controls systems, and hardware to fabricate concepts and prototypes. This may include being on one’s feet for extended periods and lifting to 50 lbs. Work Environment Includes typical office environment and lab/workshop environment. Occasional travel, with work at times outdoors or in event venues. Atypical working hours with project demands dictating the schedule.
