As the SeniorDirector of Technical Product Management (Platform), you’ll set thestrategic vision and lead execution for Upwork’s open dataecosystem. You’ll drive critical infrastructure investments thatempower hundreds of internal data consumers and fuel AI/MLinnovation across the company. In this highly visible andcross-functional role, you’ll collaborate with engineering,analytics, and data science leaders to build scalable, trustworthysystems that enable experimentation, decision-making, and businessgrowth. Responsibilities

• Define and drive the strategic visionfor Upwork’s internal data platform, aligning with company-widepriorities and influencing executive stakeholders.
• Lead, mentor,and scale a high-performing team of product managers, settingdirection across data infrastructure, governance, and internaltooling.
• Partner with engineering, analytics, and AI/ML leadersto deliver reliable, secure, and scalable data systems — includingevent streaming, data lake architecture, and observability tools.
• Champion a customer-first culture within the data platform team,surfacing and solving challenges that impact data reliability andaccess across business functions.
• Establish and track clearproduct goals and outcomes, aligning product investments withorganizational impact and long-term scalability.
• Drive innovationand continuous improvement by fostering a culture ofexperimentation, psychological safety, and bold, future-focusedthinking.
• Communicate vision and progress with clarity,influencing cross-functional stakeholders and enabling efficient,async collaboration at scale. What it takes to catch our eye
• 10years in product management with 4 years leading technical productteams, ideally in data platform or infrastructure roles.
• Deepunderstanding of modern data technologies, including data lakes,batch/real-time pipelines, event streaming, and observabilitytooling.
• Proven track record of building and scaling internalplatforms that serve cross-functional teams and drive measurablebusiness impact.
• Experience partnering with AI/ML and datascience teams to support experimentation, model development, anddata reliability.
• A strategic, outcome-oriented mindset withstrong leadership, communication, and stakeholder alignmentskills.
