EpiCenter Position Summary:

The Social Media Assistant supports the development and execution of digital content strategies across institutional social media platforms. This includes creating and scheduling engaging multimedia content (e.g., video, photo, graphics, and written content ¿ both short and long form), monitoring audience engagement and reporting, and execution of community and social media strategy. The role reports to the Social Media Manager and primarily collaborates with members of Marketing & Strategic Communications, as well as employees in other academic departments, to elevate the College¿s digital presence, promote key initiatives, and support brand consistency. Variable scheduling and travel required.

Requirements:
Education:

Associate degree in marketing, communications, digital media, or related field.

Experience:

At least two years experience creating content for social media platforms in a professional, academic, or organizational setting. Experience may include managing social accounts, producing short-form video, writing copy, or using social media management tools. An equivalent combination of education, coursework, internships, or relevant volunteer experience may be considered in place of direct professional experience.

Knowledge:

Working knowledge of social media platforms, their respective features, best practices, and content trends;
Content calendar development and campaign planning;
Accessibility and digital inclusivity principles (e.g., alt text, video captioning, color contrast);
Brand voice, customer service, and interpersonal communication principles;
Video and photographic production and editing techniques;
Computers and related software applications.

Skills:

Writing and editing captions and social copy tailored to various platforms;
Scheduling content using social media management tools (Sprout Social or equivalent);
Monitoring and responding to audience interactions in a timely, professional manner;
Collaborating with team members and stakeholders to ideate and execute campaigns;
Staying current with evolving social media trends, memes, and events, and adjusting content accordingly;
Recording and editing videos and photographs;
Creative and independent;
Using a computer and related software applications (e.g., including but not limited to Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere, and other Adobe Creative Cloud software);
Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with subordinates, coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give and receive work direction.

Physical:

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Medium Work:

Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be subjected to electrical currents, dusts, extreme temperatures, work space restrictions, intense noises and travel.

Responsibilities:

These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.
Potential Frequency 1. Collaborates with staff and departments to support social media content needs, including brainstorming ideas for and creating content, campaigns, promotions, and events. Daily 30% 2. Captures, edits, and organizes photo and video content for use across social platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and more; assignments may occur during campus events, including evenings or weekends. Daily 30% 3. Assists in planning, scheduling, and publishing content using social media management tools, consistent with brand voice and social strategy. Daily 30% 4. Helps monitor social media accounts for audience comments and messages, and flags or drafts responses as appropriate. Daily 5% 5. Participates in tracking content performance and collecting basic analytics for review by the social media team. Daily 5% 6. Performs other related duties as assigned, including assisting with campaign planning, accessibility checks, and trend research. As Required
