05/08/2025 JOB SUMMARY This position is responsible for developing and executing social media, creating engaging content, developing promotional and advertising collateral, and promoting programs, events, and facilities to the public.

MAJOR DUTIES

Develops and implements social media and promotional strategies to promote parks and recreation programs, events, and services. Creates promotional materials, including flyers, brochures, t-shirts, advertisements and all other promotional materials for department. Manages and maintains the department’s social media accounts by posting content, engaging with the community, and tracking trends. Monitors social media analytics and adjusts strategies to optimize engagement and reach. Captures high-quality photos and videos at events and programs for marketing purposes. Monitors and updates the Smyrna Parks and Recreation webpage with current information and resources. Designs and distributes promotional and educational material for the department to include a newsletter featuring upcoming programs, events, and community highlights, quarterly programs guide, camp offerings, and digital ads for displays and events Collaborates with other city departments and community partners to maximize outreach efforts. Assists with media relations and press releases as needed. Stays informed about industry trends and best practices in parks and recreation social media and public relations. Develops and executes email campaigns to promote events and engagement. Maintains and organizes a digital content library for promotional use. Coordinates promotional partnerships with local businesses and organizations. Assists in planning and executing community engagement initiatives, programs, events, and activities Ensures branding consistency across all marketing materials and platforms. Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

Knowledge of graphic design software (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.). Knowledge of website management platforms (WordPress or similar). Knowledge of email marketing platforms (HubSpot, Constant Contact, etc.). Skill in photography and basic photo editing. Skill in analyzing and interpreting marketing data and trends Skill in creativity and attention to detail in content creation and branding Skill in interpersonal relations. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in project management. Skill in interacting with management and other departments.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Parks and Recreation Director assigns work in terms of detailed and specific instructions. The supervisor spot-checks work in progress and upon completion for accuracy, adequacy, and adherence to instructions and established guidelines.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include Parks & Recreation policies and procedures, City of Smyrna ordinances, and human resources policies. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, requiring little interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

The work consists of various marketing and public relations disciplines The purpose of this position is to develop and execute marketing strategies, manage social media, create engaging content, create promotional collateral, and promote programs, events, and facilities to the public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is typically performed at a desk while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, or crouching, or walking. The employee frequently lifts light objects and occasionally lifts heavy objects. The work can also be performed outdoors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Proficiency in graphic design software (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.). Experience with website management platforms (WordPress or similar). Photography and basic video editing skills. Familiarity with email marketing platforms (HubSpot, Constant Contact, etc.). Ability to analyze and interpret marketing data and trends. Strong organizational and project management skills. Creativity and attention to detail in content creation and branding. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia.
