About the Department The mission of the NC State University Department of Athletics is to prepare student-athletes to compete at the highest level and to inspire them to be leaders now and for the future by providing the best environment to achieve their athletic, academic, and personal aspirations as well as providing support for the professional development of our coaches and staff, all within the role of the greater institutional relationships to the University. Essential Job Duties As a key member of the NC State Athletics Digital Strategy team, the Digital Content Strategist plays a vital role in shaping and evolving the department’s digital presence. This position bridges content creation and strategic planning, developing digital-first campaigns that elevate the NC State Athletics brand while supporting revenue-generating goals including ticket sales, sponsorships, and fan engagement. The strategist is responsible for developing and executing strategic social media and digital initiatives across official athletics accounts (@PackAthletics), ensuring content aligns with the department’s brand platform, strategic communications goals, and marketing objectives. This includes writing and producing engaging content that follows content strategy best practices, reinforces key messages from the department’s strategic plan, and strengthens relationships with fans and stakeholders. The ideal candidate is a creative thinker and digital expert with strong photography, video, and graphic skills. They will attend key events to capture real-time content, support live engagement, and build compelling narratives that enhance the fan experience and expand the reach of NC State Athletics. This position plays a critical role in growing our online community, engaging core audiences, and building effective content distribution channels. This position reports to the Senior Director of Digital Strategy. Other Responsibilities Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the organization and evolving priorities. Qualifications Minimum Experience/Education Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. Other Required Qualifications Prior experience with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign or comparable software.
In-depth knowledge and understanding of social media channels and their audiences to develop targeted messages.
Effective interpersonal skills. Must be able to establish and maintain relationships with external and internal audiences.
Headline-writing and caption writing skills.
Ability to meet tight deadlines.
Must be able to handle multiple projects.
Professional understanding of platforms including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and other emerging channels.
Strong project management and organizational skills.
Knowledge of Associated Press editorial style. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience with Adobe Premiere Pro.
Experience with social media analytics and reporting strongly preferred.
Knowledge and understanding of sports preferred.
Experience with higher education content a plus and/or B2C experience. Required License or Certification N/A Valid NC Driver’s License required No
