Job Responsibilities
Completes inspections of facility to ensure compliance for all phases of institutional fire, safety, and sanitation as it relates to policies and regulations. Provides guidance and consultation to institutional personnel to ensure compliance with environmental health and safety programs. Provide safety training for both staff and inmates and conduct inspections to ensure that they properly perform all assigned duties and post procedures in a safe manner. Investigates reported hazards, accidents, injuries, and other incidents which impact health, welfare and safety of employees and inmates. Ensure all documentation of such is completed and forwarded accordingly. Ensures control and proper use of all hazardous materials/contaminants in accordance with policies and procedures. Ensure all workers’ compensation is completed, entered and forwarded in a timely manner. Completes and maintains OSHA log and other documentation. Ensure adequate safety of public, inmates and institutions. EHSO Lieutenant. Must successfully complete eight (8) week SCDC Basic Training upon hire

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may be substitute for the required experience

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

(Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources). Three (3) years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.
A degree in Criminal Justice or a related degree may substitute for Supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 1 year).
Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position. Additional Comments
