PRIMARY FUNCTION

: Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. The purpose of the National Navy Defense Cadet Corp Instructor (NNDCC) program is to instill in students in secondary educational institutions the values of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment.

REQUIREMENTS:
Education Level:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience, Skill and Certification:

Valid Georgia Teaching Certificate in the assigned teaching field NJROTC Certification AND Military Junior ROTC Instructor Qualification Letter. NNDCCI must be certified by Naval Service Training Command (NSTC) Must have experience serving in the Navy, Coast Guard or Marines. NNDCCIs are employees of Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS), not the Navy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Develop and implement lessons aligned the prescribed three- or four-year Naval Science curriculum. Implement, and adhere to the Regulations for Citizenship Development for the NNDCC Program. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the school district. Instruct cadets in military drill while ensuring the safety and well-being of cadets at all times during cadets’ participation in unit activities Serve on routine faculty committees and performing curricular or extracurricular duties normally performed by, and rotated equitably among, other faculty members Ensure cadets are not discriminated against on any improper basis, notifying school authorities and taking immediate corrective action when it appears more likely than not that discrimination occurred. Counsel and mentor students who participate in the program Require cadets to conduct themselves in a military manner at all times when under instructor supervision (i.e., when attending Naval Science classes, drills, or on authorized field trips or orientation cruises) and that they observe military courtesies and traditions Provide guidance and information to cadets and other qualified students Order authorized government furnished equipment Evaluate the condition of cadet uniforms and other government property for repair or replacement Plan extracurricular activities for the unit, such as color/honor guard ceremonies, academic, drill and marksmanship team competitive meets, field trips, basic leadership training camps. Maintain student records for each cadet in the Citizenship Development Management Information System (CDMIS) Attend Navy-sponsored training to keep abreast of program requirements and ensuring cadets are trained in accordance with current requirements of the Navy. Ensure proper accounting and physical security of all government furnished equipment/materials Establish a professional working relationship with school counselors, faculty, support staff and administration Make presentations to students at feeder schools annually to recruit new cadets into the program Any other duties deemed necessary by school administration

Terms of Employment:

Incumbents will receive an annual contract. The work calendar will be 250 days.
