East Stroudsburg University’s Theatre Department is looking for a Tenure Track Assistant/Associate Professor of Acting & Directing with a specialty in Design & Production. Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU’s proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to professional markets, careers, and social activities. Just minutes from campus are the country’s largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun. ESU’s Theatre, Music, and Dance Department is committed to creating and developing a diverse, engaged, artistically well-balanced body of future theatre professionals, performers, and teachers. The Department offers a BA in Theatre with four areas of concentration: Acting for Theatre, Television, and Film, Musical Theatre, Directing, and Design and Technical Theatre. We are currently seeking to welcome an Assistant/Associate Professor of Acting and Directing, with abilities in the classroom, studio, and rehearsal hall. We are especially looking for artist/scholars who possess the ability to direct shows across genres, with additional expertise in performance styles, such as movement, mask work, intimacy coordination, new and devised work, or other areas of specialty. We are looking particularly for candidates who are eager to work alongside a team to create new programming and expand our mainstage season offerings, with a demonstrated commitment to working with a diverse, multi-cultural, and multi racial student body. We pride ourselves on providing an individualized education for all our aspiring artists and value candidates who care about being part of the community. The ESU Theatre Department is located at in the Fine and Performing Arts building on campus. Our facilities feature multiple performance and rehearsal spaces and fantastically equipped shops and classroom spaces. We are a collaborative faculty that enjoys working closely together both in the classroom and onstage. The successful candidate will have both academic and professional credentials in the theatre, as well as having demonstrated:

Essential Responsibilities:

Teach a 4/4 course load in acting, directing, musical theatre, and related disciplines.
Direct 1-2 mainstage shows per school year.
Student advisement and career planning.
Active participation in the collaborative process.
University/College/Department service.
Assisting with recruitment and retention initiatives.
