4/30/2025 11:59 PM Eastern Description As the Mighty Banyans Mascot “Rooty”, you will be responsible for bringing to life the character and spirit of New College or team by portraying our beloved Mascot. Your role is vital in creating a memorable and entertaining experience for fans, engaging with audiences of all ages, and enhancing the overall fan engagement at events, games, and promotional activities. Examples of Duties Performs as Rooty the Mighty Banyan at New College and community appearances. Remains in character while wearing the costume. Perform dance routines, stunts, and crowd interactions to entertain and engage fans during games and events. Encourage audience participation, including leading cheers and chants, and posing for photos with fans. Represents New College mission and core values in a positive and friendly manner through performances at on and off campus events.
Commits to the assigned schedule of Rooty appearances at on-campus and off-campus events.
Maintains the proper use of Rooty costume as directed.
Interacts, in character, with New College students, faculty, staff, parents & families, children, alumni, and communities’ members. Works events throughout the year, including evenings and weekends, as applicable. Arrives to assignments punctual and prepared.
Distributes New College promotional items designed to create good will and increase school spirit. Poses for photographs and communicates without speaking as directed. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Mascots must be outgoing, social individuals.
They appear at games and participate in local events to encourage game attendance.
They work to engage fans and create loyal followers.
Must be in a physical condition that supports both wearing heavy costumes and standing or walking for extended periods of time and variable weather conditions.
Must work well with others, including children and fans of all ages. Mascots must be able to read individuals social cues to understand the level of interaction each fan may want.
Strong non-verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey emotions and enthusiasm through physical gestures and expressions.
A friendly and engaging personality, with the ability to interact positively with fans and represent the organization professionally.
Comfortable performing in a confined costume with limited visibility and mobility, adapting to different performance environments and situations. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience performing as a mascot. Ideal applicants for the position of mascot should be motivated in generating school or team spirit.
