Music The University of North Alabama’s Department of Music invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor of Music/Visiting Associate Director of Bands, beginning August 15, 2025. The Department of Music is a proud member of the UNA School of the Arts, alongside wonderful colleagues from the departments of Cinematic Arts and Theatre, Visual Art & Design, and Entertainment Industry. Located in the Shoals, known for its rich musical heritage and vibrant creative community, the UNA Department of Music cultivates musicians equipped to contribute to the world stage. The successful candidate will be expected to excel in actively assisting the Director and Assistant Director of Bands in all aspects of marching and concert band rehearsals, administration, planning, conducting, creative work and logistics as a team of directors; maintain excellence in teaching applied lessons, perform recruiting activities for the band program and department; serve on departmental/university committees; attend faculty and other relevant meetings; mentor and provide academic advising to students in the department. Preference will be given to those who have the ability to teach applied trumpet. The initial review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position has been filled. For full consideration, applications must be received by June 1, 2025. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. The successful candidate will assist the Director and Assistant Director of Bands in marching and concert band rehearsals, administration, planning, conducting, creative work and logistics as a team of directors; teach applied trumpet; recruit students; serve on departmental and university committees; mentor and provide academic advising to students in the department; and perform other duties as assigned. A terminal degree in music is preferred; however, ABD candidates close to completion of a doctorate may be considered for the position, but at the rank of Visiting Lecturer. Experience in teaching collegiate-level band and experience in teaching collegiate-level applied trumpet and in the marching arts is preferred.
